CENTERVILLE—The pilot of a single engine plane that crashed Tuesday in an empty field in Centerville was killed in the accident.

Just after 11:30 a.m., Oct. 10, 43-year-old Donald Nathan Higgs of Plain City was found by first responders still in the aircraft that went down near Legacy Parkway Trail.

“He was the lone occupant and was deceased,” said Centerville Police Lt. Allen Ackerson. “We’ll be coordinating with the NTSB, FAA and the Office of the Medical Examiner on the cause of death and the crash. We’ll take it as a whole to determine all of the factors.”

Ackerson said they believe the plane was out of Skypark Airport. “It went nose first into the ground. South Davis Metro Fire came out but fortunately there was no fire.”

Radio traffic received transmission from the pilot saying there was an issue with the plane before it went down, he said. “Until the FAA releases it Centerville Police will maintain security on the plane.”
