Davis High’s Max Landon won medalist honors at the Region 1 championship, shooting a 74 and 66 over the two-day tournament Oct. 2 at Old Mill and Oct. 5 at Glen Eagle. The tournament was spread out due to weather.

“That was definitely the biggest highlight,” said head coach Josh Roberts, while also noting Jack Christiansen’s two-day showing with rounds of 74 which placed him ninth. “Jack’s performance was huge for us.”

The Darts have been hovering around fifth place in the region for much of the season, but the team’s finish in the region tournament propelled them to third place and third overall on the year.

On Day One at region, the golfers dealt with an hour-long rain delay before returning to the course. “We decided to get back out there and finish the round even with the conditions the way that they were,” said Roberts. “Us as coaches spent the afternoon pushing water off the greens right before each golfer was putting. It was cold and very difficult scoring conditions.”

Landon and Christiansen’s first day scores tied themselves for second individually while Peyton Love and Luke Simmons both recorded 78s. On Day Two, Landon and Christiansen again were the top scores for Davis to move them up the scoreboard.

“Region was great,” Roberts said. “I’m extremely proud of the team for their hard work during the season as well.”

Landon finished in third overall overall on the season with a 69.6 stroke average.

Farmington

Farmington High’s Jack Summerhays earned Region 1 medalist honors for the season overall after a seventh-place showing – with rounds of 74 and 73 – at the region championship at Old Mill and Glen Eagle. His scoring average of 69.0 was just ahead of Fremont’s Chase Burton at 69.1.

Also placing at the region tournament for the Phoenix squad were Cole Taylor (second), Dax Anderson (tied for fifth) and Brigham Goldsberry and Madden Streiff (tied for 10th).

On the season, Taylor was fourth overall with a 70.6 stroke average, Anderson was fifth with a 71.9 and Streiff tied for 11th with a 74.1. The team finished second with a 285.1 average, just behind Fremont at 284.9.
