KAYSVILLE—Students and future students lined the halls at Davis Technical College (Davis Tech) last Thursday to talk to potential employers and get information about future career opportunities at the school’s fall Career Fair. Forty to 50 companies set up booths with representatives who could explain what they have to offer. Some even held onsite interviews.

“We usually hold two career fairs, one in the spring and one in the fall,” said Brentneye Gonzales, Davis Tech Career Placement Specialist who organized the event. “We have community partners who support Davis Tech.”

Last year there were 40 employers representing all of Davis Tech’s five different schools, she said. “Business, manufacturing, service professions, transportation and health. We’ve had a really good turnout (today), probably an average of 150-200 people.”

Gonzales said she always does a survey after with both attendees and employers. “It asks things like ‘how many people did you talk to?’ It helps us so we can better serve them in the future.”

Northropgrumman and Hill Air Force Base are doing onsite interviews, she said. “It’s recruitment, they do have openings. Most employers have openings. The fair is a great opportunity for students and the community and for both local and national employers.”

Davis Tech is a great educational source, Gonzales said. “We have a great partnership with employers that leads to sustainable employment. I love that our students are highly sought after because of the relationships we have with employers.”

Ogden Clinic was at the fair looking for good employees in the medical field. “It’s provider owner,” said Yadira Trujillo, Talent Acquisition Coordinator for Ogden Clinic. “We have 26 facilities from Bountiful to Logan. Logan is our newest acquisition. We’re always on the lookout for good talent, CNAs, medical assistants, coding, billing and receptionists.”

Davis Tech always has great people, she said. “We feel like students come out prepared to take on the tasks and learn in general. It’s 100% worth it.”

Gonzales said she got a stack of resumes from the fair. “I’ll take those back to our hiring managers. It’s been a good day.”

Nash Bryce will be graduating from Davis Tech in cyber security in December. “I’ll be going to Utah State to continue my studies,” he said. “I’m looking for a part-time position to get me through school.”

Bryce said he’s particularly interested in Northropgrumman. “They have an office in Logan. I’d like to be a security analyst and monitor the computer network to protect companies against vulnerabilities so that someone can't access their information and also to protect intellectual property.”

He’s also interested in Wasatch I.T. “They take care of cyber security for multiple companies,” he said. “I want to be in cyber security because I like to take a computer designed to do one thing and make it do something else and find loopholes in systems and then prevent them.”
