Davis

The Davis High girls swimming team won the Region 1 Relays Nov. 7 at Layton Surf ‘n Swim while the boys squad finished second.

“This year, we combined relays with individual 100s and ended the night with two fun relays – a T-shirt relay where a T-shirt gets passed on to each swimmer who races with it, and a tube relay where a tube is pulled, pushed or dragged across the pool in a race,” said head coach Kit Barker. “It was a blast!”

Those who won events for the Darts were Allie Allen (100 Individual Medley, 200 butterfly relay), Henry Barber (200 back relay), Jane Bassett (200 backstroke relay), Garrick Bench (200 back relay), Bryson Bernhardt (200 back relay), Adlen Groberg (200 freestyle relay, 200 back relay, 200 breaststroke relay), Micah Hale (200 free relay), Taylor Johnson (200 back relay), Maureen Karren (200 breast relay), Sam Landheim (100 fly), Julian Shaw (200 free relay, 200 breaststroke relay), Elsie Smith (200 fly relay, 200 breast relay), Lincoln Smith (200 back relay), Nahlia Stewart (100 Individual Medley, 200 free relay, 200 fly relay), Bo Stromberg (200 back relay) and Kate Whitlock (200 fly relay).

Other top-three placers were Noah Arnell (second, 200 breast relay), Barber (second, 200 fly relay; third, 200 medley relay), Garrett Barker (second, 200 free relay; second, 100 free; third, 200 medley relay), Colin Bennett (second, 200 breast relay), Bernhardt (second, 200 free relay; second, 200 fly relay), Hale (second, 200 IM; third, 200 medley relay), Jonah Hender (second, 200 free relay; second, 200 fly relay), Landheim (second, 200 free relay; second, 200 fly relay; third, 100 free), Mason Simons (second, 200 breast relay; third, 200 medley relay), Logan Wong (second, 200 breast relay), Bassett (third, 100 back), Bench (third, 100 back; third, 100 IM), Karren (third, 200 medley relay, Shaw (third, 200 medley relay), Elsie Smith (third, 200 medley relay) and Lincoln Smith (third, 200 medley relay).

Farmington

Freshman Elsie Crowell broke a school record in the 100 breast at the Region 1 Relays, touching the wall with a time of 1:17.33, “winning by a landslide,” according to head coach Stacy Edholm.

“We are so excited to see more records come down this season with Elsie,” Edholm said.

On the boys side, sophomore Will Scott had a personal-best swim in the 100 back in a time of 1:00.44, just beating Weber’s Easton Adams by two-10ths of a second.

“Will had some incredible swims and best times,” said Edholm.

Other top-three finishes for the Phoenix squad were Crowell (second, 200 free relay), Heidi Holbrook (second, 200 back relay), Madelyn Kartchner (second, 200 back relay), Jacie Nielson (second, 200 back relay), London Spears (second, 200 free relay; second, 200 back relay), Eliza Treu (second, 200 free relay), Nerys Turnbaugh (second, 200 free relay), Saige Baxter (third, 200 breast relay), Brooke Belnap (third, 200 breast relay), Cannon Christensen (third, 200 back relay), Mia Cikara (third, 200 breast relay), William Farnsworth (third, 200 fly relay; third, 200 back relay), Kael Michaelson (third, 200 free relay), Ezra Moon (third, 200 free relay; third, 200 fly relay), Eden Murray (third, 200 breast relay), Davis Nielson (third, 200 free relay), William Norseth (third, 200 fly relay), Scott (third, 100 breast; third, 200 back relay), Jack Smart (third, 200 fly relay) and Clarke Tholl (third, 200 free relay).

“We had some fast times in the pool and some best times as well. This is such a fun meet because the kids get to swim relays that don’t happen the rest of the season, like the 200 backstroke relay,” said head coach Stacy Edholm. “The T-shirt and the tube relays at the end of the meet are always a hit and bring a lot of smiles and laughs.”

Viewmont

In a dual meet at Herriman, Nov. 7, Viewmont’s boys scored 130 points, just four points behind the Mustangs, placing first in eight events. Isaac Hale won the 100 back and the 100 free; Thomas Chamberlain, the 200 IM, Eric Chamberlain, the 50 free; Andrew Webster, the 100 fly; Gus Stockhoff, the 500 free; the 200 medley lineup of Hale, Eric Chamberlain, Weber and Henry Helgesen; and the 400 free relay squad of Hale, Thomas Chamberlain, Eric Chamberlain and Webster.

The girls team lost to Herriman 164 to 102 with Gabby Henry winning the 500 free and 100 back and Hallie Gerrard the 200 IM individually. They also swam legs on the 200 first-place 200 free relay team, along with Vivienne Loose and Veronika Paschen.

“We had lots of outstanding swims and some big points earned in nearly flawless swims from Thomas Chamberlain,” said head coach Jessica Trauner. “I also have to hand it to Angela Salas Arizpe who dropped 10 seconds from the first meet – about a four to five day turn around – and Vivi Loose has had wonderful swims and is an emerging leader on the team. She has worked so hard that she’s already gotten a spot in our A relay for future meets.”

Other top-five finishes for the Vikings were Eric Chamberlain (second, 100 free), Thomas Chamberlain (second, 100 breast; second, 200 free relay), Gerrard (second, 50 free; second, 400 free relay), Helgesen (second, 200 free relay; third, 100 fly), Henry (second, 400 free relay), Rex Johnson (second, 200 free), Loose (second, 100 breast; second, 400 free relay), Paschen (second, 100 free; second, 400 free relay), Gavin Smith (second, 200 free relay), Stockhoff (second, 200 free relay), Webster (second, 50 free), Jared Getz (third, 200 free), Maddie Hall (third, 200 medley relay), Allison Hamblin (third, 200 medley relay), Julia Jones (third, 200 medley relay), Austin Smith (third, 100 breast) and Maya Wiemers (third, 200 medley relay; third, 100 fly).

“It wasn’t our best meet. For sure, we have to clean some things up at practice before the Thanksgiving Invite, but lots of growth is happening which is good,” said Trauner.
