CENTERVILLE—Who can forget Bing Crosby singing “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas,” in the 1954 movie that has become a timeless classic? Centerpoint Theatre is bringing the nostalgia back to kick off the holiday season with its production of “White Christmas.” It’s a sweet tale of love, mixed with lots of laughter and unforgettable tunes.

It’s Christmas Eve, 1944 during WWII and the GIs are trying to bring a little holiday cheer to their difficult surroundings. Bob Wallace, Phil Davis and their friend Sheldrake start singing “Happy Holidays,” and “White Christmas” for their buddies around a simply made Christmas tree.

Flash forward to 1954 and Bob and Phil have become a little famous performing on the Ed Sullivan Show. They’re introduced to sisters, Betty and Judy Haynes who have an act of their own to see if they can team up for the next show.

At the girls’ performance, Betty and Judy sing another Berlin favorite, “Sisters,” as they wave blue feathered fans and have a bit of fun. Their show impresses Bob and Phil, but it’s not only the performance they like – it’s the sisters as well.

Phil has been trying to get Bob to find a girl and he thinks Betty might be the one. However, Betty’s not as eager to make that happen. Phil and Judy come up with a plan to switch the men’s tickets to Florida to Vermont where the girls are performing. While sitting on the train, Bob can’t understand why everyone on board is bundled up for winter when he thinks they’re headed for Florida. When they end up in Vermont, Bob isn’t too happy that he has been tricked.

Much to their surprise, the inn is owned by their former general who’s about to lose the place but doesn’t know it because his secretary has been hiding all the bills.

Bob and Betty seem to clash but eventually after she sees Bob's soft side her interest grows. In the meantime, Bob and Phil decide they want to help the general by bringing people into the inn for their show. They send out a message to all of those GIs who served with him to come to the inn and surprise him.

Betty (Bailee DeYoung, MWF) and Judy (Danna Facer, MWF) give a fun rendition of “Sisters” while Justin Lee (Bob Wallace, TTHS) and Craig Williams (Phil Davis, MWF) bring Berlin’s favorites to life backed by a talented cast of singers and dancers and impressive sets.

Get bundled up and start the holidays right with “A White Christmas.”

The show runs through Dec. 21, Monday – Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday Matinees at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $19-$37 and are available at the box office, 801-298-1302 or online at CPTUtah.org. The Theatre is located at 525 N. 400 West in Centerville.
