Bountiful returns state qualifiers – senior Madelynn Fenwick and juniors Liam Glissmeyer and Andy Duke – to their team this season along with sophomores Cole Crimmins and Ellie Watkins who competed on the state relays last year.

Second year head coach Chad Reimschussel said his group has been “working on the legs” to prepare for the season in hopes of improving times as the year goes on. “We are also in the growing phase of the team as we look to get bigger in the coming years and get more swimmers qualified for the state meet.”

In the first meet of the season at the Thanksgiving Invitational Nov. 17-18, Duke was second in the 100 breaststroke while also placing sixth in the 200 medley relay, seventh in the 500 freestyle and ninth in the 400 free relay. Glissmeyer was fourth in the 200 free and 100 butterfly, sixth in the 200 medley relay and ninth in the 400 free relay while Long was fifth in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free and also swam legs on the sixth-place medley relay team and the ninth-place 400 free relay squad. Watkins was the highest finisher for the girls with a seventh-place showing in the 100 fly event.

Other top-10 finishes for the Redhawks were Cole Crimmins (sixth, 200 medley relay), Fenwick (ninth, girls 200 medley relay; 10th, 100 back), Raej Johansen (ninth, boys 400 free relay), Ellie Moss (ninth, girls 200 medley relay), Zoe Nielson (ninth, girls 200 medley relay) and Arianna Steuart (ninth, girls 200 medley relay).

Also on the 2023-24 BHS girls squad are Suren Armstrong, Claire Bryson, Josefina Eyring, Margarret Klingler, Sierra Shurtz, Ellie Showalter and Caroline Wang. The boys team also includes Chanler Blackburn, Lincoln Crockett, Samuel Frei, Aleksander Godfrey, Mason Goodro, Benjamin Meidell, Lincoln Pykles, Bowen Reed, Miguel Paraco Rojas, Robert Snow, Thomas Steed and Jaydon Tonnesen.

“We have a great group of athletes that are great humans both in and out of the water,” Reimschussel said. “They come with a positive attitude every day ready to challenge themselves and get better. I am lucky to coach such a great group of kids.”

Bountiful is also scheduled for meets at Cottonwood Dec. 5, Davis District Dec. 16 and the Mayors Cup Jan. 19 before the Region 5 event Feb. 9. The 5A state meet will be held Feb. 23-24 at Brigham Young University.
