Davis

Third-ranked Davis beat Cyprus 53-19 Dec. 12, putting in 15 points out of the gate while holding the Pirates scoreless in the first quarter. The Darts continued to pour the offense on as they led 30-8 by halftime and coasted to the win.

Kate Richards was the leading scorer with 13 points while Kate Willard (nine points), Kendra Kitchen (eight), T’maea Eteuati (seven), Chloe Peery (four), Shea Miller (four), Olivia Lifferth (four), Avery Dain (two) and Maya Chino (two) also got on the board for Davis.

Against American Fork Dec. 14, Davis won 48-34, going up 12 by half and 20 entering the final quarter.

“American Fork is a great team and is well-coached,” said head coach Anne Davis. “It was a battle on both ends of the court. They have a lot of shooters who have deep range. Our players played with a lot of heart and came up big on both ends when we needed it.”

Kitchen had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Darts while Eteuati also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Richards (seven points), Dain (six) and Lifferth (two) also scored in the win.

Davis remains undefeated through seven games this season.

Bountiful

The top 5A team, in Bountiful, and Ridgeline, the top 4A squad, squared off Dec. 15 with the Riverhawks getting the better of the Redhawks 78-49.

Bountiful was down 21 points at halftime and Ridgeline poured on 32 more points in the second half.

Milika Satuala and Taylor Harvey both scored 14 points with Adelaide Stevenson also in double figures with 10.

The Redhawks fell to 4-3.

Viewmont

Viewmont defeated Weber 69-40 Dec. 12. The Vikings came out strong – going up 10 after the first quarter and 17 by halftime – before scoring 37 second-half points to cruise to the win over the Warriors.

“I felt like we played as close to a complete game as we have all season thus far, although we still have plenty to work on and get better,” said head coach Cameron Gardner. “We did a good job at sharing the basketball and getting the ball to the open player. We had a season-high 19 assists on the night which means we were playing as a team. We had several players knock down three-point shots and grab a lot of rebounds.”

Kristina Gunnell’s 19 points led the way with Mary Carr and Karissa Goff also in double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively. Also adding offense were Mara Mickelson (eight points), Sophie Gold (seven), Aubrey Mulitalo (five) and Kailey Selleneit while Callie Peterson was tops on the boards with 12 rebounds.

Against Skyline Dec. 14, Viewmont lost 51-41. The Vikings were down 27-14 at halftime and, despite outscoring the Eagles in the second half, it wasn’t enough in the 10-point loss.

“We started off really slow and never really gained any traction until the second half,” said Gardner. “We got down by 18 in the third quarter and then we were able to cut that deficit to four points, but every time we made a run they hit a three-pointer to extend their lead. Ultimately, we fell short and Skyline did what they needed to do to win.”

Carr had 12 points and 12 rebounds with Mulitalo adding nine points and 10 boards.

Viewmont is now 4-4 on the year.

Woods Cross

Fifth-ranked Woods Cross defeated Hunter 45-32 Dec. 13, getting out to a good start and holding an eight-point lead by halftime. The Wildcats held the Wolverines to single-digit scoring in three of the game’s four quarters in the 13-point win.

Katie King had 19 points to lead Woods Cross while Mari Nichols and Grace MacArthur also scored in double figures with 11 points. Kiyomi Tauataina and Avery Poulton both had two points as well in the win.

Against 6A’s fourth-best squad in Copper Hills Dec. 15, the Wildcats lost 57-32. Woods Cross was down seven points at the break but scored just five points in the third – while the Grizzlies had 15 – as Copper Hills pulled away.

“This game did not go well,” said head coach David Simon. “We played a pretty good first half and then came unraveled in the second half. We didn’t execute well and we turned the ball over a lot. Copper Hills is a really good team so they deserve credit as well.”

Nichols’ 11 points were tops for the Wildcats in the loss.

“We as coaches are committed to help the girls get better and they want to be better as well,” Simon said.

Woods Cross is now 3-2 this year.

Farmington

Farmington lost in overtime to Murray 47-42 Dec. 12. The Phoenix squad went up early, holding a four-point advantage after the first quarter before the Spartans went up one by the break. Farmington again regained control of the game, going up five points heading into the final quarter before Murray equalized to send the matchup into extra time. The Spartans outscored the Phoenix by five in overtime to pull out the win.

Brynn Ryan and Morgan Rogers led offensively with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Against Spanish Fork Dec. 14, Farmington lost 28-17. The Phoenix team again came out strong, holding a 9-2 lead after one and four at halftime. But, the Dons outscored Farmington 14-2 in the third quarter to take control of the game and held the Phoenix girls to just three points in the second half.

Jazmin Spence led the team with seven points in the loss.

Against Northridge Dec. 15, Farmington lost 48-38. It was a low-scoring affair early on – with the Knights holding a narrow 4-3 lead after one and 16-12 at halftime. The Phoenix team scored 26 second-half points but it wasn’t enough as Northridge pulled away at the end.

Rogers led Farmington with nine points.

The Phoenix squad is still looking for its first win through seven games this year.
