Davis, who is ranked second in 6A, beat Murray 65-31 Dec. 28, going up 32-13 at half and then scoring 33 points in the second half to run away with the game.

The Darts were led by Kendra Kitchen with 22 points and Kate Richards with 20 with the duo combining for five 3-pointers. Also scoring for Davis were Chloe Peery (six points), Shea Miller (six), T’maea Eteuati (four), Kate Willard (three), Avery Dain (two) and Maya Chino (two).

Against Northridge Dec. 30, the Darts won 65-32, turning a four-point lead into a 22-point advantage by the break. A 29-point second half finished off the Knights.

Richards’ 13 points led the way for Davis while Kitchen had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Also providing offense in the win were Shea Miller (11 points), Eteuati (11), Dain (nine), Olivia Lifferth (five), Peery (three) and Chino (three).

In a tight one with Mountain Ridge Jan. 4, the Darts pulled out a 56-53 win. Davis was up early before the Sentinels fought back to go up one at halftime. A 23-point third quarter broke things open until Mountain Ridge again battled back with a big fourth quarter. The Darts held on for the three-point win.

Eteuati’s 21 points paced the team’s offense with Richards (13 points), Kitchen (eight), Miller (six), Lifferth (six) and Dain (two) also scoring.

Davis is now 11-0 on the season.

Farmington

Farmington picked up its first win of the season Dec. 28 with a 63-16 rout of Granger. The Phoenix squad came out strong, taking a 32-9 advantage by halftime and allowing just seven points the rest of the way while pouring in 31 more points.

Brynn Ryan led Farmington with 19 points with Breklyn Archibald (eight points), Liberty Anderson (seven), Ava Goff (six), Kate Garff (six), Morgan Rogers (four), Jazmin Spence (three), Katie Myers (two), Hailey Larsen (two), Macy Fox (two), Emilie Figlioli (two) and Amira Bell (two).

Against Pleasant Grove Jan. 4, the Phoenix lost 54-49, going down early and facing a 12-point deficit at the break. Farmington outscored the Vikings 24-17 in the second half but it wasn’t enough.

Ryan’s 18 points along with Rogers’ 11 led Farmington’s offense in the loss.

The Phoenix squad’s season record now stands at 1-9.

Bountiful

Bountiful, who is fourth in the 5A ranks, defeated Springville 46-29 Dec. 19. The Redhawks turned a one-point deficit at halftime into a huge lead with a 19-point third quarter effort – to the Red Devils’ two points – to pull away in the win.

Taylor Harvey led the way with 20 points while Milika Satuala was also in double figures with 15 points. Also scoring for Bountiful were Mae Johnson (seven points) and Adelaide Stevenson (two) and Anna Larson (two).

Against Fremont Dec. 29, the Redhawks won 61-42. Bountiful was down two at the end of the first quarter and then held a two-point lead heading into the break. An 18-point third quarter for the Redhawks broke open the game and Bountiful coasted to the win.

Harvey and Satuala combined for 39 points to lead the scoring with Maleah Nelson (six points), Johnson (six), Stevenson (five) and Isabeau Hoff (three) also providing offense.

The Redhawks picked up another big win with a 69-46 victory over Box Elder Jan. 3 with a 42-point first-half showing and adding 27 points over the final 16 minutes.

Satuala had 18 points to lead the way with Harvey (16 points), Mae Johnson (13), Stevenson (nine), Nelson (five), Anna Larson (three), Hoff (three), Charlotte Johnson (two) also scoring in the win.

Bountiful then beat Viewmont 81-54 Jan. 5, turning a seven-point lead after the first quarter into an 18-point advantage by the break. A 37-point second-half effort helped the Redhawks coast to the win.

Nelson nailed six 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead the team while Harvey added 23, Satuala 15, Stevenson 8, Johnson 8, Brynna Castleton 2 and Hoff 1.

With the three wins this week, Bountiful improved its season record to 8-3.

Viewmont

Viewmont defeated Riverton 56-51 Dec. 19. The Vikings stayed in front much of the game as they were up three at the end of the first quarter and a one-point edge at the break. Twenty-eight points in the second half – to the Silverwolves’ 24 – were enough in the win.

“It was a hard-fought battle from start to finish,” said head coach Cameron Gardner. “It was a great team win. We had a lot of girls step up and do good things. We battled through some adversity with two players getting injured and not being able to return to the game. We won the rebounding battle and played with passion to win. I’m proud of this team.”

Three players were in double figures for Viewmont – Aubrey Mulitalo (16 points), Kristina Gunnell (15) and Mara Mickelson (11) – while Callie Peterson (five), Sophie Gold (four), Kelsey Lindsey (two), Mary Carr (two) and Cayla Stout (one) were also part of the team’s offense.

Against Roy Jan. 3, the Vikings won 58-50. They were down by five after the first quarter and battled through a tight game, entering the fourth quarter behind by two points before outscoring the Royals by 10 to pull out the win.

“It wasn’t perfect, but it feels good to start region 1-0,” Gardner said. “We were trailing to start the fourth quarter and ended up winning the fourth by 10 points to secure the victory. We got down by as many as 10 points early in the first half and we showed resiliency and toughness by not wavering when we got down and we made some adjustments at halftime and came away with the win.”

Mulitalo again led the squad with 17 points with Gunnell (11 points), Mickelson (eight), Stouto (seven), Carr (six), Gold (four), Peterson (three) and Karissa Goff (two) also scoring.

In an 81-54 loss to Bountiful Jan. 5, Gunnell was the leading scorer with 25 points while Carr added 17.

The Vikings are now 6-5 this season.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross lost to Judge 45-42 Dec. 18. The Wildcats got down early – 16-3 after the first quarter – and battled back to make it a game with 30 points through the next two quarters to tie things up going into the final quarter before coming up just short.

Kiyomi Tauataina scored 11 points to lead Woods Cross.

Against Murray Dec. 19, the Wildcats lost 36-35. Woods Cross was up five at the end of the half and then at the end of the third, but managed just four points over the final eight minutes to lose by one.

Mari Nichols was the leading scorer with 11 points in the loss.

Against Brighton Dec. 27, the Wildcats pulled out a 45-44 win. Woods Cross was down three points at halftime before taking a two point edge into the final quarter and then holding on for the one-point win.

“This game was a really great game for us,” said head coach David Simon. “I think Brighton is one of the top teams in 5A so we knew it was going to be a really tough game. We came out and played really well defensively. I challenged the girls before the game to come out strong to start the game. We did that and then we matched their intensity throughout the game. We did not shoot free throws well and that hurt us.”

Kiyomi Tauataina had 10 points to lead the Wildcats while Mari Nichols (eight points), Katie King (eight), Adia Cook (eight), Avery Poulton (seven), Grace MacArthur (two) and Ili Crockett (two) also scored.

“We played well enough that we had a chance to win at the end of the game,” said Simon. “With about 13 seconds left in the game and down 1 point, we set up a play that the girls executed perfectly. Katie King made a great pass to Mari Nichols for a lay up and the go-ahead basket. Brighton got the ball in bounds with about six seconds left and got a shot off, but missed and we ended up winning. The contributions were very even for our team and everyone played a role in this win. This was important for us because we had not been playing very well the previous couple of games.”

Woods Cross then faced Weber Dec. 29 and won 53-42. The Wildcats were down in the first half before flipping the script with a 36-point second half to win by 11.

“This was a hard-fought game,” Simon said. “We had a really good second half offensive game, making a few shots and defending pretty well. We did foul a lot so we have to work on getting ourselves in better defensive positions.”

King’s 19 points were tops for the squad with Crockett (10 points), MacArthur (seven), Nichols (six), Tauataina (five), Cook (five) and Poulton (two) also part of the offense.

Against Bonneville Jan. 3, Woods Cross won 49-38, coming out strong and finishing strong with the first and final quarters making the difference in the nine-point win.

Katie King again led the Wildcats with 16 points, including three 3-pointers, while Tauataina (10 points), Cook (eight), Nichols (seven), MacArthur (five) and Poulton (three) also scored in the win.

Against Box Elder Jan. 5, Woods Cross lost 58-50.

“It was a super competitive game for us,” said Simon. “Box Elder has some good speed and we had a hard time in transition both on offense and defense. It came down to the fourth quarter and we just turned the ball over too many times that it was too much to overcome. We continue to work to be better and the girls are buying into the hard work.”

King had 15 points with Nichols (14 points) and Poulton (11) also scoring in double figures. Poulton was tops on the glass with eight rebounds.

The Wildcats are currently 6-5 on the year.
