The Davis girls defeated Weber 99 to 71 in a dual meet Jan. 9 while the Darts boys lost 88 to 82. “Our swimmers were mostly swimming events they don’t normally swim,” said head coach Kit Barker. “Many of them tried the 200 free, 200 IM and 500 free for the first time! They didn’t think they could do it, but they finished and surprised themselves!”

In a meet with Syracuse, Fremont and Farmington Jan. 12, Davis won overall with the girls taking first and the boys coming in third.

First-place finishers were Garrett Barker (200 freestyle, 500 free, 400 free relay), Micah Hale (500 freestyle, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Adlen Groberg (200 free relay, 400 free relay), Garrick Bench (400 free relay), Bryson Bernhardt (400 free relay), Maureen Karren (200 Individual Medley), Samuel Landheim (400 free relay), Nahlia Stewart (200 free relay, 400 free relay), Julian Shaw (200 free relay) and Kate Whitlock (400 free relay).

Farmington

Farmington’s boys took first place against Syracuse, Davis and Fremont Jan. 12 while the girls came in fourth to amount for a third-place showing overall for the Phoenix program.

Clarke Tholl came in first in the 100 breast and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team which also included Will Scott, Ezra Moon and Kael Michaelson. Brooke Belnap also won an event, the 100 fly.

Head coach Stacy Edholm said the race to watch was the boys 100 freestyle where Tholl and Moon came in second and third, respectively.

“They both dropped time along with almost every other Phoenix swimmer in the race – Nathan Taggart, Henry Norseth, Evan Swasey, Jack Keller, Parker Brough, Kimball Majors, Neil Tanner and Nicholas Tolman,” Edholm said. “All of them came in faster than their best time and some of them by over two seconds!”

Other top-five finishers were Belnap (second, 200 free), Scott (second, 500 free; second, 200 IM; second, 400 free relay), Maddy Kartchner (fourth, 200 free), Moon (third, 50 free), Michaelson (second, 400 free relay), Jake Rizley (second, 400 free relay), Jack Smart (second, 400 free relay; fifth, 100 back), London Spears (fourth, 500 free; fifth, 50 free), Mia Cikara (fifth, 100 breast), William Farnsworth (fifth, 100 fly; fifth, 500 free).

Edholm also noted large time drops for Smart and Owen VanSkiver in the 200 free – where they took seventh and eighth place respectively – along with Eden Murray and Sophia Larsen, who both swam the 100 back for the first time, and Nathan Taggart in the 50 and 100 free events.

“We are looking forward to the Mayors Cup on the 19th where the Phoenix swimmers will be ready for more fast swims,” said Edholm.
