Susan (Sue) Hamby Tietsort

Susan Ruelene Hamby Tietsort passed away at her home in Sedona, Arizona on Jan. 3, 2024 with her husband by her side. Sue was born in Cedar City, Utah on April 5, 1954 to Ruel Joseph and Alice May Cupp Hamby. She attended Davis County schools. Sue enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975-1982 and served four years in Germany, she enjoyed her career as an Avionics Communications Specialist. She was then employed by United Airlines in San Francisco before transferring to Indiana as an Avionics Engineer from 1986-2009. Sue had one child Daniel J. Kunkle in 1974 and he describes his mother as very kind, loving, and always listened with an open heart. She was a selfless mother. 

Sue met her soulmate John Tietsort while employed at United Airlines and they married in 1989. Sue enjoyed sports in her youth especially recreation softball. As an adult she enjoyed hiking, archeology, jeeping and her “animals” (cats and dogs). 

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Darrell F. Saunders, sister Sandra Jorgensen, and in-laws LeRoy and Nancy Tietsort. She is survived by her husband John Tietsort, son Daniel J. Kunkle, siblings Jim (Lori) Hamby, Sherrie (Kort) Delost, Steve Hamby and Joe Hamby, beloved nieces and nephews, and her animals. 

At Sue’s request, there will be no services. The family would like to thank her husband John for his tireless devotion and caregiving to Sue in her final days.
