Davis

Second-ranked Davis defeated Layton 60-34 Jan. 16. The Darts scored 30 points in each half to run away with the game.

Kendra Kitchen led the way with 21 points while T’maea Eteuati (nine points), Kate Willard (eight), Kate Richards (five), Shea Miller (four), Olivia Lifferth (four), Sydney Plummer (two),  Chloe Peery (two), Avery Dain (two), Maya Chino (two) and Maki West (one) also scored.

Against Syracuse Jan. 19, Davis suffered its first loss of the season 49-39. The Darts were down at halftime, being outscored by 10 in the second quarter. The two teams played even the rest of the way but the initial deficit was too much to overcome.

T’maea Eteuati had 11 points to lead Davis while Kate Richards and Kendra Kitchen each added 10 points.

The Darts are now 13-1 this season and 2-1 in Region 1 play.

Farmington

Farmington beat Fremont 62-31 Jan. 16. The Phoenix team scored just seven points in the first half – to the Silverwolves’ 34 points. A 24-point second-half effort wasn’t enough to dip into the deficit.

Morgan Rogers had the majority of Farmington’s points with 21 while also grabbing seven rebounds.

Against Layton Jan. 19, the Phoenix squad lost 55-39, getting down early – scoring just five points in the opening quarter – and down by 15 by halftime. Despite an evenly matched second half between Farmington and the Lancers, it wasn’t enough in the loss.

Hailey Larsen scored eight points for Farmington in the loss while Morgan Rogers added seven.

The Phoenix team’s record is 1-12 on the year and 0-3 in Region 1’s standings.

Viewmont

Viewmont beat Northridge 61-53 Jan. 17, coming back from an 11-point halftime deficit to score 43 second-half points and flip the script to pull out the win.

“This was really a tale of two halves,” said head coach Cameron Gardner. “We only scored 18 points the first half, getting down by as many as 15 points. In the second half, we came out with more energy and a better mindset to do some little things that we didn’t do in the first half.”

Mary Carr’s 16 points were tops for the Vikings while Aubrey Mulitalo (13 points), Callie Peterson (12), Kristina Gunnell (12), Mara Mickelson (six) and Karissa Goff (two). Peterson grabbed eight rebounds to lead on the glass.

Against Bonneville Jan. 19, Viewmont won 57-26. The Vikings were up 43-11 at halftime and, despite being outscored by the Lakers in the second half, the game was well in hand.

“We held them to single-digit points in each quarter,” said Gardner. “We also had nine players score points and everyone that dressed varsity was able to play which is always fun.”

Carr’s 14 points and eight rebounds led Viewmont with Mulitalo also adding 14 as well as Mickelson (eight points), Gunnell (seven), Peterson (four), Cayla Stout (three), Goff (three), Kailey Selleneit (two) and Kelsey Lindsey (two).

The Vikings are now 10-5 this season and 5-1 in Region 5.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross defeated Roy 50-35 Jan. 17, turning a five-point lead at the break into a 17-point advantage heading into the final quarter.

“We finally put a few things together for this game,” said head coach David Simon. “We shared the ball, we made some shots, we took care of the ball and found the open girl for good shots. We played well together and as a team in this game.”

Mari Nichols had 21 points to lead the Wildcats with Katie King (12 points), Kiyomi Tauataina (10), Grace MacArthur (three), Lucy Thompson (two), Ili Crockett (one) and Mersadie Carroll (one) also scoring. Nichols, King and Tauataina also combined for 19 rebounds.

“It has taken some time, but we have worked hard to figure a few things out,” Simon said. “We will need to get better, but I feel like this game was a step in the right direction. The challenge now will be to continue to improve and move in the same direction.”

Against Northridge Jan. 19, Woods Cross won 64-37. In a back-and forth-game early – and with a one-point halftime advantage – the Wildcats scored 39 second-half points to run away with the game.

MacArthur’s 18 points game led the team while King (17 points), Nichols (11), Adia Cook (10), Tautaina (five) and Mary Gilbert (four) also provided offense in the win.

Woods Cross evened up its Region 5 mark at 3-3 and are 8-7 overall.
