Farmington High swimmers win Mayors Cup

Farmington High’s Elsie Crowell won the 500 freestyle event while also picking up two other third-place finishes to help the Phoenix teams win the Mayors Cup at the South Davis Recreation Center Jan. 19. The freshman also took third in the 100 butterfly, dropping five seconds off of her personal best, while also swimming legs on the third-place medley relay and third-place 400 free relay squads.

“This was a success for us,” said head coach Stacy Edholm. “Almost all of our swimmers were in attendance with a few missing because of illness. We had 37 individual best times and one season-best in a relay.”

Other top showings for the girls were Brooke Belnap (second, 100 free; third, 200 free; third, medley relay; third, 400 free relay), Heidi Holbrook (third, 500 free; third, 400 free relay; fourth, 50 free), Maddy Kartchner (third, 200 Individual Medley; third, medley relay; fifth, 100 fly), Jacie Nielson (third, medley relay; fifth, 200 free), London Spears (third, 100 backstroke), Nerys Turnbaugh (third, 400 free relay), Saige Baxter (fourth, 200 IM; sixth, 100 fly), Eden Murray (fourth, 100 breast), Toree Anderson (fifth, 200 IM), Mia Cikara (sixth, 50 free), Eliza Treu (100 free)

Top-six placers for the boys were Kael Michaelson (second, 200 free relay; third, 400 free relay; sixth, 100 free), Ezra Moon (second, 50 free; second, 100 free; third, 400 free relay; fourth, 100 free), Henry Norseth (second, 200 free relay; fourth, 50 free), Jake Rizley (second, 200 free relay; third, 100 fly; fourth, 200 free), Jack Smart (second, 200 free relay; third, 50 free; sixth, 100 back), Will Norseth (third, 500 free; sixth, 100 fly), Will Scott (third, 100 back; third, 400 free relay; fifth, 50 free), Clarke Tholl (third, 400 free relay; fourth, 100 breast; fifth, 100 free), William Farnsworth (fourth, 100 fly), Nathan Taggart (fourth, 500 free), Owen VanSkiver (fifth, 100 fly), Jonah Babboni (sixth, 500 free), Noah Bampi (sixth, 200 IM), Michael Treu (sixth, 50 free)

Edholm also recognized some of her swimmers for their consistent time drops throughout the season. Senior Grace Rodgers had PR’s in the 100 free, nearly four seconds faster than her previous best, and a second and a half in the 100 back. Jack Keller dropped almost 14 seconds in the 100 breast and more than 1.5 seconds in the 100 fly. Freshman Sophia Larsen shave more than eight seconds off her 100 breast time and 1.11 seconds in the 50 free.

“All of these great swims contributed to us winning the meet,” said Edholm.



Viewmont

Viewmont High came in second overall at the Mayors Cup behind several first-place finishes, including four from Gabby Henry – in the 200 free, 100 fly, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. Other multiple winners were Eric Chamberlain (50 free, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay), Hallie Gerrard (100 back, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay), Isaac Hale (200 free relay, 200 medley relay), Henry Helgesen (200 free relay, 200 medley relay), Veronika Paschen (200 medley relay, 400 free relay) and Andrew Webster (200 free, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay) while Julia Jones (400 free relay) and Vivienne Losee (200 medley relay) also swam legs on winning relays.

Other top-six placers for the Vikings were Thomas Chamberlain (second, 100 fly; sixth, 100 breast), Gerrard (second, 200 IM), Hale (second, 100 breast; second, 200 IM), Rex Johnson (second, 500 free), Paschen (second, 50 free); third, 200 free relay), Andrew Webster (second, 100 back), Eric Chamberlain (third, 100 free), Maddie Hall (third, 200 free relay), Jones (third, 200 free relay), Losee (third, 200 free relay; sixth, 200 IM), Tempe Anderson (fourth, 500 free), Gus Stockhoff (fourth, 200 IM; sixth, 200 free), Megan Huff (fifth, 500 free), Austin Smith (fifth, 500 free) and Elle Shumway (sixth, 500 free). 



Woods Cross

Woods Cross’ Justin Chamberlain won the 100 breast and 200 IM while also swimming a leg on the first-place 400 free relay lineup to help lead the Wildcats to a third-place showing at the Mayors Cup.

Other multiple winners were Isaac Chomjak (100 back, 400 free relay), Rebekah Cyril (100 breast, 200 free relay), Grace Gilbert (200 free relay, 200 medley relay), Ava Glissmeyer (50 free, 200 medley relay), Diego Gutierrez (100 fly, 400 free relay) and Kalli Holzer (200 free relay, 200 medley relay) with Alanna Holzer (200 medley relay), Will Hunter (400 free relay) and Emi McBride (200 free relay) also swimming legs on winning relays.

Also finishing top-six were Justin Chamberlain (second, 200 medley relay), Chomjak (second, 100 free); second, 200 medley relay, Cyril (second, 400 free relay; fourth, 200 free), Gilbert (second, 100 back; third, 50 free), Glissmeyer (second, 100 breast; second, 400 free relay), Alanna Holzer (second, 100 fly; second, 400 free relay; third, 100 free), Hunter (second, 200 medley relay; fifth, 100 back), Moose Norman (second, 200 medley relay; third, 200 IM, fourth, 100 back), Grace Woodbury (second, 500 free; second, 400 free relay); sixth, 200 free, Kalli Holzer (third, 100 breast; fourth, 100 fly), Avery Boynton (fourth, 100 back), Gutierrez (fifth, 200 free), Logan Richards (fifth, 200 IM) and McBride (sixth, 100 breast).



Bountiful

Behind first-place finishes from Madelynn Fenwick and Liam Glissmeyer in the girls and boys 100 free events respectively along with Cole Crimmins in the 500 free, Bountiful High placed fourth at the Mayors Cup.

Other top-six placers were Crimmins (second, 400 free relay; third, 200 free; third, 200 free relay), Andy Duke (second, 200 free; second, 400 free relay; third, 200 free relay; third, 100 breast), Fenwick (second, 200 free; second, 200 free relay), Glissmeyer (second, 400 free relay; third, 200 free relay; fifth, 100 breast), Henry Long (second, 400 free relay; third, 200 free relay), Ellie Moss (second, 200 free relay), Zoe Nielsen (second, 200 free relay; fifth, 100 free), Ellie Watkins (second, 200 free relay; fourth, 100 free; fifth, 50 free), Ellie Showalter (fifth, 100 back), Arianna Steuart (fifth, 100 breast) and Claire Bryson (sixth, 100 back).
