Four games into the region portion of the boys basketball season, Davis is hanging around the top of the league standings. At 3-1, the Darts were just a game out of first place, trailing 4-0 Layton heading into their Jan. 26 contest at Weber.

Davis had a strong effort against Syracuse on Jan. 19, winning 64-52 at home. The first half was where the Darts did most of their damage. After the first two quarters, Davis was up convincingly, 39-20. Syracuse outscored Davis 32-25 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Darts from improving to 11-5 overall.

Davis shot nearly 50% from field while holding Syracuse to just 33%. Coleman Atwater led the Darts in both scoring and rebounding (sharing the honors in rebounding with Easton Ralphs), recording 16 points and hauling down five boards. Ike Morgan had 13 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals. JT Turley contributed 11 points and four rebounds.

This week started off well too, as Davis got past Farmington 65-58 in a key road game on Jan. 23. A 42-31 second-half surge turned the tables for Davis, which was trailing 27-23 at the break. Davis also made 18 free throws to Farmington’s 10 and hit seven three-pointers.

Atwater was the game’s high scorer, betting 23 points. Caleb Taylor chipped in 11 points and three assists. Zach Fisher led the team with eight rebounds and had six points.

Farmington

The Phoenix have stumbled a bit to a 1-3 start in Region 1 play. They have an overall record of 10-6.

Still, Farmington has been competitive in its defeats.

Take Farmington’s Jan. 19 loss at league-leading Layton, for example. In that matchup, the Phoenix took the Lancers to overtime before falling 81-77. The game was close throughout. Both teams made 29 field goals in all, including nine three-pointers. The difference was Layton’s 14 converted free throws to Farmington’s 10.

Jayden Haskell led the Phoenix with 19 points, while Paul Beattie had 15 points. Carter Nordquist and Braden Larsen also hit double figures in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Ethan Harris and Ethan Atkinson both had nine points.

In the loss to Davis, Farmington got off to a good starting, leading 12-7 after one quarter. But Davis took control of the game from there. In a losing effort, Beattie had 20 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Haskell had 14 points, and Larsen added 11.

Farmington visits Syracuse on Friday for a chance to break a two-game losing streak.
