Region 1 prep basketball teams in Region 1 have hit the halfway point of league play, and the Davis Darts are right in the thick of the race.

Davis is 4-1 in region games, just behind 5-0 Layton, which gave the Darts their only loss of Region 1 action. Overall, Davis finished January with a mark of 13-5.

More importantly, the Darts are fourth in the RPI rankings, put them in a good spot to earn a first-round playoff bye and second-round home game.

Davis most recently blew out Weber, winning on the road 80-58. The Darts took a close game at the end of the first quarter (21-18) and turned it into a 42-30 halftime advantage. A fourth-quarter surge of 20-12 iced the game for Davis. Though Davis only shot eight free throws, their made 33 shots from the floor to just 20 for Weber. Davis also hit eight three-pointers, including four from Coleman Atwater, who led all scorers with 24 points. Zach Fisher provided a good one-two punch in the win, as the senior forward had 22 points to go along with eight rebounds. Tradon Bessinger and Caleb Taylor had nine and eight points, respectively. Ike Morgan had a quiet night in the scoring column, but the senior had seven assists and four steals.

Next up for the Darts is a home game with Fremont on Feb. 2. Davis beat the Silverwolves 66-54 in the previous meeting on Jan. 12.

Farmington

The Phoenix are 2-3 halfway through region play and sit at 11-6 overall. Farmington snapped a two-game losing streak on Jan. 26 with a rousing 63-36 victory.

Farmington made all eight of its free throws and held Syracuse to just 12 field goals while making twice that many of its own.

Paul Beattie led the team with 20 points in the victory. Meanwhile, Malakai Tobler had a season-best 13 points (his previous season high was six points). Jayden Haskell also had 13 points, while Braden Larsen had eight. Tobler also had a game-high three three-pointers.

Farmington is No. 8 in the RPI rankings. It next plays at home against Weber. The last time the two teams met on the court, Weber edged the Phoenix in overtime, 75-74 on Jan. 12.
