Bountiful

Bountiful, the top team in 5A, beat Bonneville 76-29 Feb. 7, going up 44-13 at half and coasting to the dominant win.

Milika Satuala and Taylor Harvey both scored 20 points – with Harvey hitting four 3-pointers – while Adelaide Stevenson (12 points), Mae Johnson (eight), Maleah Nelson (six), Sila Tu’akoi (five) and Anna Larson (five) also contributed offensively.

Against Clearfield Feb. 9, Bountiful won 50-46. The Redhawks seemingly had the game in hand with a 14-point advantage by halftime. But, the Falcons fought back in the second half and made it a closer game with Bountiful pulling it out in the end.

The Redhawks remained undefeated through 12 Region 5 games and are 18-3 this season.

Davis

Third-ranked Davis defeated Layton 54-29 Feb. 6. The Darts got out to a quick start to lead 19-6 by the end of one and 12 at the break. Davis scored 24 more points over the final 16 minutes and coasted to the win.

Kendra Kitchen led the Darts with 16 points while T’maea Eteuati (12 points) and Shea Miller (11) also scored in double figures. Kate Richards (eight points), Olivia Lifferth (three), Kate Willard (two) and Chloe Peery (two) rounded out the team’s offense.

Against Syracuse Feb. 9, Davis won 68-45, avenging its only loss of the season with an impressive shooting display beyond the arc. Eteuati, Kitchen and Richards combined for 16 of the Darts’ 17 3-pointers made, which is two shy of the state record and the most in 6A history. Eteuati put in eight of those and had a game-high 26 points while Kitchen (18 points) and Richards (16) were also in double figures. Willard (five points), Peery (two) and Avery Dain (one) added the additional offense in the win.

Davis now owns the Region 1 tiebreaker with Syracuse and improved to 7-1 in the region standings are 18-1 this year.

Farmington

Farmington lost to Fremont 51-19 Feb. 6. The Silverwolves and Phoenix squads were within one point after the first quarter before Farmington went scoreless over the next eight minutes to go into halftime down seven. A nine-point second-half couldn’t match Fremont’s 34 points in the loss.

Gabrielle Spence scored six points, putting in two 3-pointers to lead the team.

Against Layton Feb. 9, the Phoenix lost 41-27. Farmington kept things close in the first half, going down just five at halftime. But, they came out of the break and could only manage two points over the next eight minutes – to the Lancers’ 12 – and found themselves behind 15 points entering the fourth quarter.

Brynn Ryan had a game-high 12 points in the loss.

Farmington fell to 1-7 in Region 1 play and are 2-16 on the season.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross defeated Viewmont 45-35 Feb. 7. The Wildcats were down early, scoring just five points in the first quarter before outscoring the Vikings 15-8 in the second quarter and continuing to widen the gap in the third quarter in the win.

Mari Nichols had 14 points as well as Katie King with 13 points, Ili Crockett nine, Avery Poulton six and Grace MacArthur three.

Against Roy Feb. 9, Woods Cross lost 55-47. The Wildcats were on top early, with a three-point advantage after the first quarter, but scored just five points before halftime while the Royals put in 16 so they went into the break down eight. An evenly-played second half – with both teams scoring 30 – left Woods Cross unable to cut into the lead in the loss.

The Wildcats are now 5-7 in the Region 5 standings and 10-11 overall.

Viewmont

In Viewmont’s loss to Woods Cross, the Vikings started off with an 8-5 lead to open the game before relinquishing the lead to the Wildcats and losing by 10.

“We made more mistakes than Woods Cross and got out rebounded,” said head coach Cameron Gardner. “Even then, we cut the lead to four points with four minutes remaining.”

Aubrey Mulitalo led Viewmont in scoring with 14 points.

Against Northridge Feb. 9, Viewmont lost 49-45. After a three-point deficit at halftime, the Vikings scored 17 points and took a four-point lead heading into the final frame but were unable to close it out.

“It was another tough loss. We had a hard-fought game and it came down to the end with Northridge making a couple shots down the stretch,” said Gardner. “Our girls played hard and gave themselves a chance to win. We out rebounded them, turned them over more than we did, but unfortunately, they show the ball really well and made nine 3’s.”

Mulitato again had 14 points for Viewmont to lead the team.

With the two losses this week, the Vikings fell to 6-6 in Region 5 and are 11-10 on the season.

“During the span of our current skid, we have only shot 18 percent from 3-pointers and 34 percent from 2. Meanwhile, our opponents have shot 32 percent from 3 and 38 percent from 2,” said Gardner. “We need to defend better and focus more of our energy on that front. We will continue to work hard and be at our best going into the playoffs next week.”
