Just one game remains in the regular season for Region 1 boys basketball teams from Davis and Farmington. The two schools met on the hardwood for a big clash on Tuesday, and the Phoenix got revenge in an upset win.

Entering the matchup, Davis was two games out of first place in Region 1, sporting a 6-2 record and an overall mark of 15-6. Meanwhile, the Phoenix were struggling at 2-6 in league play and 11-9 overall. Plus, when the two teams met on Farmington’s home court on Jan. 23, the Darts earned a 65-58 victory.

But Farmington got the upper hand this time around, winning 62-56.

Playing at Davis, Farmington used a big second quarter to take charge of the game. Davis was up 16-14 after one quarter, but the Phoenix went on a 20-9 run in the second. This gave the Phoenix a 34-25 advantage at the break – an advantage they wouldn’t relinquish. Farmington pushed the lead out more, going up 46-34 heading into the final six minutes. Though Davis made a modest run in the fourth, it wasn’t enough to get back in front.

Farmington shot a blistering 25 of 41 from the field, while Davis was just 20 of 48. Davis lost despite making 13 three-pointers to three for Farmington.

The Phoenix got 15 points from Paul Beattie and 11 from Braden Larsen. In a balanced effort, Farmington also had four players tally nine points: Carter Nordquist, Jayden Haskell, Ethan Harris and Ethan Atkinson.

In a losing effort, Tradon Bessinger hit five three-pointers and registered 17 points in all. Coleman Atwater hit four shots from behind the three-point arc and had 16 points. Ike Morgan added 11 points.

On Feb. 9, Davis edged Syracuse 52-51. The Darts controlled the game most of the way but had to withstand a late rally from Syracuse to preserve the victory. Syracuse outscored Davis 17-8 in the fourth quarter after the Darts had built a 44-34 lead.

Davis made all eight of its shots from the foul line. Atwater paced the team with 16 points, while Bessinger had 14 points and nine rebounds.

As for Farmington, its win over Davis was on the heels of a strong effort against Region 1-leading Layton on Feb. 9. Farmington fell 71-66 at home to the Lancers, who are 9-0 in league play. Paul Beattie had 21 points to lead the Phoenix. Larsen and Haskell had 15 points and 12 points, respectively.

Up next for Davis is the regular-season finale at home against Weber on Friday. Farmington closes with Syracuse on Friday.
