Woods Cross swimmers second at Region 5 championships

Woods Cross’ Alanna Holzer won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly at the Region 5 swimming championships Feb. 9 at the South Davis Recreation Center to lead the girls team to a second-place finish. She also swam legs on the first-place 200 medley relay team – which also included Ava Glissmeyer, Rebekah Cyril and Grace Gilbert – and the winning 400 free relay squad of Glissmeyer, Cyril and Jade Bevans.

The boys team was also second to Box Elder and was led by Justin Chamberlain who won the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 breaststroke. He also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team, which included Isaac Chomjak, Diego Gutierrez and Ammon Kamauu.

“We had an awesome meet with lots of great swims,” said assistant coach Jamie Holzer. “We are so proud of these kids and their season of hard work!!”

Glissmeyer won the 100 backstroke with other podium finishes coming from Chamberlain (second, 400 free relay), Chomjak (second, 100 freestyle; second, 400 free relay; third, 100 backstroke), Glissmeyer (second, 100 free), Will Hunter (second, 400 free relay; third, 100 free), Kamauu (second, 500 free; second, 400 free relay; fourth, 100 fly), Bevans (third, 200 free relay; fourth, 100 fly; fifth, 50 free), Cyril (third, 100 breast; fourth, 100 free), Gilbert (third, 100 back; third, 200 free relay; fifth, 200 IM), Kalli Holzer (third, 200 free relay; fourth, 100 breast), Sophia Mortensen (third, 200 free relay; fifth, 500 free), Gutierrez (fifth, 100 fly), Maxwell Holdstock (fifth, 100 free), Grace Woodbury (fifth, 500 free) and Moose Norman (sixth, 100 fly).

“We are sad to lose our huge group of 23 seniors, but excited for them too!” said coach Holzer. “It’s been a wonderful experience together and such a great season together with everyone!”



Viewmont

Viewmont placed third at the Region 5 championships behind first-place finishes from Eric Chamberlain in the 100 fly, Gabby Henry in the 200 IM, Andrew Webster in the 200 free, the boys 400 free relay lineup of Eric Chamberlain, Webster, Isaac Hale and Thomas Chamberlain and the girls 200 free relay team of Henry, Vivienne Loose, Veronika Paschen and Hallie Gerrard.

Other top-six finishes for the Vikings were Eric Chamberlain (second, 200 medley relay; third, 50 free), Gerrard (second, 50 free; second, 100 back; third, 200 medley relay), Hale (second, 100 back; second, 50 free; second, 200 medley relay), Henry Helgesen (second, 200 medley relay; fifth, 100 breast; sixth, 50 free), Webster (second, 200 medley relay; third, 500 free), Henry (third, 200 medley relay), Vivienne Loose (third, 200 medley relay), Paschen (third, 200 medley relay; fourth, 50 free), Thomas Chamberlain (fourth, 200 IM; sixth, 500 free)



Bountiful

Bountiful’s Liam Glissmeyer won the 100 free and Henry Long touched first in the 500 free to help the Redhawks boys take fifth at the Region 5 championships. The girls team placed fourth, led by Madelynn Fenwick’s fourth-place showing in the 100 back and a fifth-place finish in the 200 free while swimming a leg on the third-place 400 free relay team which also included Ellie Showalter, Zoe Nielsen and Ellie Watkins.

Other podium finishes for Bountiful were Cole Crimmins (second, 200 free relay; sixth, 200 free), Andy Duke (second, 200 free relay; third, 100 breast; fifth, 500 free), Liam Glissmeyer (second, 200 free relay; third, 200 IM), Long (second, 200 free; second, 200 free relay) and Watkins (fifth, 100 fly).
