Nearly halfway through the Region 5 schedule, the Bountiful boys soccer team is clearly the team to beat.

The Redhawks are 6-0 in league play and have just one defeat in nine games overall. That setback came in the season opener on March 6. Since then, Bountiful has reeled off eight wins in a row, six of which have come by at least two goals.

On Tuesday, the Redhawks blasted Box Elder at home by the score of 5-0. Bountiful tied a season-high in goals and got points from five different players: Sammy Serio, Coby Forbes, Austin Eddings, Pim DeJonge and E’en Boyer. Elias Pacheco had two assists, and David Kessler got the shutout in the net. It was the fourth time this season that Bountiful shut out an opponent.

Next up for the Redhawks is a home game with Woods Cross on Thursday, followed by a contest at Bonneville on April 15. So far, Forbes leads the way with six goals. Pacheco might be the biggest star, however. The senior has four goals on the year to go along with 16 assists, best in the entire state.

Davis

In Region 1 of Class 6A, Davis is atop the league standings at 2-0. The Darts are 5-2 overall and have allowed just one goal since a surprising loss at Ogden on March 12.

Davis was on spring break last week, so it hasn’t seen action since a 1-0 win at Farmington on March 28. This followed a 3-0 victory at home of Weber, which was the Warriors’ only loss of the season so far.

Goalie Nicholas Forsyth has been stout, accounting for four shutouts. His defensive teammates have been equally strong, making it difficult for opponents to get off shots let alone find the back of the net. Offensively, Davis has posted 10 goals this season, with Kyle Livermore leading the way with four.

Davis was back in action on Wednesday at Syracuse, after our press time. The Darts then host Fremont on Friday.

Farmington

The Phoenix are looking for their first region win of the year. Farmington has only played four games this season and are 1-3 in those outings in head coach Brittain Thomas’ first season at the helm.

Farmington visited Fremont on Wednesday in a game before our press deadline. On Friday, the Phoenix have a big game at Weber, which is 8-1 overall.

In game one, Farmington scored five goals but has generated just one goal since. However, all three of the team’s losses have come by just a single point.

Viewmont

Sitting 2 ½ games behind Bountiful in Region 5 is Viewmont, which sports a 3-2 league record. The Vikings are an even 4-4 overall and was last on the field for a 5-1 blowout of Box Elder on March 27.

Viewmont hosts Clearfield on Thursday and then entertains Northridge on April 15.

This season, two players have led the way offensively for the Vikings. Senior forward Drew Breese and junior forward Carson Lindquist each had five goals through eight games for the Vikings. Senior midfielder Jacob Ramos wasn’t far behind, scoring four goals during that stretch. Ashton Simkins has a team-best two assists, while goalie Brett Barbe has a shutout.

Woods Cross

Weather has limited Woods Cross to just five games so far. The Wildcats are 2-3 in those contests and are 2-2 in region play.

In its last game on March 27, Woods Cross defeated Roy in a shootout after a 1-1 game following regulation and two overtimes. The Wildcats made four penalty kicks to two for Roy to prevail.

Woods Cross has a challenging task on Thursday when it plays at Bountiful. Following that clash, the Wildcats head to Clearfield.

The Wildcats have struggled offensively, scoring three goals so far this season.
