FARMINGTON—The Board of Education of the Davis School District is beginning the process of finding a replacement for board member Derek Lamb who resigned last week.

“On Sunday evening we received an official email notification from board member Derek Lamb indicating a request to resign,” said Board President Liz Mumford at last Thursday’s meeting. “That is the purpose of our meeting this evening is to consider and accept that resignation so we’ll take a motion in that order.”

Board member Brigit Gerrard made a motion to accept the resignation and move forward with the policy and procedure to fill the vacancy. Board member John Robison seconded the motion which carried.

“It is not the right time nor a good fit for me in my life right now,” Lamb told board members. He ran unopposed for the open seat in Precinct 5, which covers areas in Clearfield, Hill Air Force Base, Kaysville, Layton and Sunset, according to the district. Lamb was sworn in as a board member in January 2023.

“We express our gratitude for Mr. Lamb’s service,” Mumford said. “Derek has a strong interest in the work of schools and we appreciated his wisdom and insights he brought to the board. We recognize the impact of changing personal circumstances and wish him the best.”

For those who are interested in filling the vacancy there will be a timeline that the board will  follow that is based on district policy and state code, said Mumford. “We have 30 days from accepting the resignation to fill that vacancy. That will begin immediately. So declarations of candidacy must be submitted by Monday, Nov. 20.”

Per policy the school board will give public notice of the vacancy at least two weeks before the board meets to fill the vacancy, a district release said.

Applicants are asked to:

  • Submit a letter of intent, resume and notarized Declaration of Candidacy by noon on Monday, Nov. 20.
  • Those materials can be sent in two ways: delivered to the Davis School district, Executive Assistant Keri Moore, 45 E. State St., Farmington, UT 84025 or emailed to [email protected].

At an open meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. the board will interview each individual whose name is submitted for consideration and who meets the qualifications for the office. According to the district, all board interviews of applicants to fill the vacancy, as well as the final appointment, will be done in open session during that board meeting
