BOUNTIFUL—A long-time city employee and two merchants who’ve anchored business in downtown Bountiful were recognized by city council members on Jan. 12.

Mark Slagowski, who is director of Bountiful City Water and has worked for more than 42 years for the utility, was honored for his service to the community. Council members expressed their gratitude for a team member who has helped keep the water flowing to homes and businesses for over four decades.

“Everyone who has worked with Mark knows they can count on him for help with any problem,” said city engineer Lloyd Cheney.

Bruce and Michelle Barton have owned and operated Barton Comfort Shoes on Main Street for 45 years, and recently announced they are closing their store.

“But we’re not completely retiring,” Bruce said. “We’re still going to be working with some of our longtime customers.” He said they loved being on Main Street, and Mayor Randy Lewis thanked them for their dedication to customers and the community.

At the same council meeting, Paul Summers was reappointed to a four-year term as a member of the Bountiful Power Commission. City manager Gary Hill said Summers “has been an incredible voice for Bountiful Power.”
