Bountiful, Davis District agree on lacrosse fields

BOUNTIFUL—Later this month, two new high school sports will begin play as sanctioned by the Utah High School Activities Association. Two local schools, Bountiful and Viewmont Highs, will field both boys and girls lacrosse teams. Now, the city and the Davis School District have entered into an interlocal agreement on a place for them to play.

The Washington Fields, on property at the site of the old Washington Elementary School in Bountiful, will be used for hosting lacrosse games. The agreement calls for up to three fields to be used through the end of May for lacrosse. The use would be weekdays only from the end of school to sunset. Any damage caused by lacrosse play would be the responsibility of the district to repair. Likewise, the city will ensure that the fields are in playable condition. It also allows for the fields to be used by the public at other times.

Bountiful City purchased the property and is making improvements thanks to the voter-approved general obligation bond from last November’s election. That bond is also being used on trail improvements in the city. The agreement helps fill the need for playing surfaces for lacrosse, as demand for recreation spaces in Bountiful is particularly high. Both the city and the school district spelled out criteria for the agreement before it was finalized. The agreement is in place for 10 years, though it will be reviewed and tweaked if necessary after one, three and five years.

The current lacrosse schedule calls for Viewmont to host Ridgeline in a boys match on March 12, with the Lady Vikings hosting Farmington on March 25. Bountiful’s boys will take on Skyline on March 17. Schedules are still being firmed up and are subject to change.
