Davis boys and girls lacrosse teams starting fast

Davis’ boys and girls went 2-0 last week, both improving to identical 5-0 starts, while the Farmington boys also have wins in all of their six games. Bountiful’s boys, Woods Cross’ girls and the Farmington girls won their games while Bountiful girls split their two games. Viewmont boys and girls and the Woods Cross boys went winless this week.

Davis Boys

The Davis High boys team defeated Fremont 12-8 March 23.

“We started really fast and our offense put a few goals in quick,” head coach Dillon Yocom said. “Rhett Rice led our offense and played really great. Luke Johnson led our defense with multiple takeaways and pushing the ball downfield and we had outstanding goalie play from Kache Allen.”

Rice had five goals while Connor Johnson (two goals, three assists), Blake Williams (two goals, two assists), Emmet Rice (one goal, one assist), Mason Kilgore (one goal), David Spjut (one goal) and Nick Johnson (one goal) also scored.

Against Clearfield March 25, the Darts won 18-3.

“We had lots of people contribute offensively and played really tough defense,” Yocom said. “It was a good all around game for the entire team.”

Davis continued its strong start to the season and have a 5-0 record in Region 1.

Davis Girls

Davis’ girls won 9-5 over Fremont March 23, turning a 3-1 halftime lead into a four-goal win. Kelly Maynes led the Darts with four goals and an assist with Sam Wilkes (two goals, two assists), Piper Searle (two goals), Kaydence Johnson (one goal) and Kerri Norton (one assist) also contributed offensively. 

Against Clearfield March 25, Davis won 22-0.

“A shutout in the sport of lacrosse is rare and was awesome to see my girls achieve. The tough, unrelenting ride and re-defending whenever our offense turned over the ball was a big contributing factor to this feat,” head coach Makenzie Hekking said. “Our girls dominated the possession clock and were unselfish in their sharing of the ball, resulting in numerous point contributors.”

Maynes had four goals and three assists, Searle had four goals and one assist, Tallulah Raser had four goals and one assist and Wilkes had four goals to lead the Darts. Also scoring for Davis were Johnson (three goals), Mackenzie Coleman (two) and Olivia Lifferth (one).

The Darts are 5-0 this season in Region 1 play.

Bountiful Boys

Bountiful’s boys picked up its first win of the season with an 18-6 win over Viewmont March 24.

“We played well,” head coach Peter Jordan said, noting the performances of senior attack man Sam LeFevre who had six goals and two assists and junior long pole Cole Terry who had 19 ground balls, three assists and a goal. “They had great games.”

Jamison Bain added four goals and one assist along with Hayden Hanson (three goals, one assist), Payson Hadley (one goal, one assist) and Rustin Lowe (one assist).

The Woods Cross game, scheduled for March 26, was postponed because of field conditions. The Wildcats are 1-3 so far this season and 1-0 in Region 5 play.

Bountiful Girls

The Bountiful girls defeated Viewmont 6-5 March 23 in its first game of the season. The Braves went up 4-1 early and held on for the narrow win.

“It was a great first game for the new girls and was really evenly matched,” head coach Olivia Cook said.

Emily Stewart had four goals and Synnove (Sunny) Price-Huish added two for the Braves.

“Grace Nixon played goalie and just started playing lacrosse last week and had some amazing saves,” Cook said.

Against Woods Cross March 25, Bountiful lost 12-9. 

“It was a really great game,” Cook said, noting freshman midfielder Naomi Bryson’s play. “She played so great on the entire field. She has no lacrosse experience and has picked it up so quickly. She is aggressive, has great footwork and is hungry to create turnovers and opportunities on defense.”

Lauren Jensen led the Braves with four goals while Price-Huish scored two with Maddi Stott and Millie Urie adding one each.

Viewmont Boys

Viewmont’s boys lost to Bountiful 18-6 March 24, scoring just three goals in each half in the loss.

“Bountiful’s more experienced players were too much for our young team,” head coach Don Stringham said.

Mason Hepworth had two goals to lead the Braves in scoring while Presley Gruber had a goal and an assist along with Noah Horsely, Tanner McCurdy and Liam Campana who scored a goal each.

Against Farmington March 26, the Vikings lost to Farmington 24-1.

“We were fatigued and tired and we were no match for Farmington,” Stringham said.

Horsley assisted on the lone goal scored by Abe Salmon. The losses last week bring the Vikings record to 3-3 this season and 0-2 in region play.

Viewmont Girls

Viewmont lost 6-5 to Bountiful March 23, coming up just short after battling back from a 4-1 deficit at halftime with four second-half goals.

Against Olympus March 24, the Vikings lost 14-1 and then lost 9-3 to Farmington March 25. Viewmont is still looking for its first Region 5 win through those three games this week and have an 0-4 overall record this season.

Woods Cross Boys

Woods Cross lost to Bonneville 17-3, going down 13-2 at half and scoring just one goal the rest of the way. Jake Hoge had two goals while Christian Nichols added the other score.

“Our goalie Noa Aguayo played a great game,” head coach Josh Hanks said.

The Wildcats are now 1-3 this year and 0-1 in the Region 5 standings.

Woods Cross Girls

The Woods Cross girls squad defeated Bonneville 10-2 March 23, coming out strong with nine first-half goals in the rout.

Against Bountiful March 25, the Wildcats defeated Bountiful 12-9 to improve to 2-1 on the season and 2-0 in Region 5.

Farmington Boys

Farmington defeated Box Elder 14-2, going up 13-1 at the half.

Davis Roche led the Phoenix with six goals while other offensive contributors were Brayden Buckley (three goals, one assist), Marcus Ball (three goals, one assist), Cole Beynon (one goal, one assist), Jonah Jacobsen (one goal), Jaden Bennett (three assists), Easton Roberts (one assist) and Tyson Mauri (one assist).

Against Viewmont March 26, Farmington won 24-1 behind four goals and an assist from Buckley and Ball. 

“We are always excited to play a crosstown rival because a handful of our seniors went to Viewmont before Farmington High School was created,” head coach Christian Taylor said. “Viewmont has a young and gritty team and I was impressed at their resilience. We came out the first quarter and scored nine goals on them, but they never backed down.”

Also scoring for the Phoenix were Roche (three goals), Roberts (three), Mauri (three), Jacobsen (two), Bennett (two), Dexter Snell (one), Jaxton Yeates (one) and Cole Beynon (one).

“I was really impressed with our younger guys who got in the game and played unselfishly,” Taylor said, also noting the play of senior faceoff middle Jaxon Yeates, who “was awesome at the face off, going 17-19 on the day.”

Farmington’s undefeated season continues at 6-0 with a 3-0 Region 5 mark.

Farmington Girls

Farmington defeated Viewmont 9-3 March 25 for its first region win. That improves the Phoenix squad’s record to 3-1 and 1-0 in Region 5.
