Viewmont, Bountiful softball get out the bats

Viewmont had big wins over Highland and Brighton while Bountiful blasted five home runs in a win over Northridge. Davis picked up its first win of the season before losing its next two. Woods Cross and Farmington both went 0-2 last week.

Davis

Davis had a 13-2 victory over Woods Cross April 5 to finally get in the win column.

“We played well as a team defensively,” head coach Todd Street said. “A lot of girls made some great plays to make outs. Nina Attanasio pitched great. We had a lot of great at-bats. The girls have worked very hard and remained positive. We are headed in the right direction. I know we will continue to improve.”

Sadie Hathaway led the Darts with four RBIs while Avery Kartchner added three. Emily Dent (two RBIs), Laney Tuft (one), Alix Thaxton (one) and Ellie Anderson (one) also contributed offensively. 

Against Syracuse April 8, Davis lost 19-3. A 3-2 deficit after the third inning got blown up with 16 runs through the final two innings for the Titans. Thaxton had one RBI for the Darts.

At Ridgeline April 9, Davis was shut out 11-0. 

The Darts are now 1-8 overall with an 0-5 Region 1 mark.

Bountiful

Bountiful defeated Northridge 19-3 April 9, going up 7-0 early and scoring in each inning, including adding seven runs in the sixth.

“We had 19 hits to break out of our hitting slump,” head coach Butch Latey said.

Eva Stoddard blasted three home runs – going 4-of-5 from the plate and driving in seven runs – while Livi Arona had three hits in her four at-bats, including a homer, to record six RBIs. Annie Salazar joined the home run party with a solo shot and Carli Sexton and Shiloh Johnson also drove in a run each. Shambre Maestas was the winning pitcher for the Braves.

Bountiful is now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in Region 5 play.

Viewmont

Viewmont had a big win against Highland 18-2 April 7, scoring 11 runs in the third inning to blow open a 3-0 lead. Sydni Steed had four RBIs with Anna Moore also driving in four with a grand slam to lead the Vikings while Kennedy Embrey had a solo home run and Ella Naea also drove in a run.

Against Brighton April 9, Viewmont won 21-4, turning a close 4-3 game into a blowout with 17 runs scored through the final two innings.

“This week, we saw some great things from players who have been working hard and putting in the time,” head coach Stacie Toney, noting Moore and Grace Nielson in particular. “We’ve been able to iron out some finer details and level up for next week when we get back into region play and have a full week of games.”

Moore and Lily Wright had three RBIs for the Vikings with Oakley Sovic (two RBIs), Molly Roberts (two), Embrey (two), Savanna Walker (one) Steed (one) and Ella Naea (one) also driving in runs.

Nielson was the winning pitcher

“I’m very pleased with the team right now,” Toney said. “We’re playing as a team and showing up every day for each other.”

Viewmont evened up its record to 4-4 with an 0-2 showing in Region 5.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross lost to Davis 13-2 on April 5. Ali Ebberts and Libby Clark drove in the Wildcats’ runs.

Against Skyridge April 6, the Wildcats lost 16-0. The game was just 1-0 after the first inning before the Falcons scored 15 runs in the second to essentially end the three-inning matchup.

With its fifth consecutive loss, Woods Cross is now 3-8 overall and 0-2 in Region 5 standings.

Farmington

Farmington lost to Bear River 7-2 April 7, adding two runs in the final inning to avoid the shutout.

Freshman Hannah Barton drove in the two runs for the Phoenix.

Against Herriman April 8, Farmington lost 17-3. The Phoenix scored three runs late to again avoid a non-scoring matchup.

Barton, Lauren Gray and Delaney Baker had RBIs for Farmington who is now 5-3 this season and 2-0 in Region 5.
