Athletes of the Week

Davis Journal is partnering with Mountain Orthopaedics of Bountiful for our Athletes of the Week contest. Winners were chosen by our Journal sportswriters with input from local coaches.

Our male athlete of the week is Rhett Rice, Davis boys lacrosse, who had 9 goals and 3 assists in wins over Layton and Fremont as Davis won the Region 1 championship.

Other male nominees were:

Hayden Hanson, Bountiful boys lacrosse, with 8 goals and 1 assist in wins over Box Elder and Bonneville.

Wyatt Sanders, Davis boys soccer, who scored 3 goals against Fremont.

Caleb White, Woods Cross track, 6th in the 400 meters at BYU Invitational.

Parker Hayford, Bountiful boys soccer, who as goalie shutout Bonneville and shared a shutout win over Box Elder.

Dylan Williams, Woods Cross baseball, who had a homer and a double in games last week.

Heber Jenkins, Viewmont baseball, who allowed just 1 run in a pitching win over Farmington.

Abe Ashby, Farmington boys soccer, who scored 1 goal and had 2 assists in a win over Bonneville.

Dalton Mortensen, Bountiful track, 7th in the 3200 at the BYU Invite.

Brady James, Woods Cross track, 6th in the 300 hurdles at BYU Invite.

Conner Draper, Bountiful track, 4th in the 200 at BYU Invite.

Our female athlete of the week is Carlee Hansen, Woods Cross track, who won both the 800 and 3200 meter events at the BYU Invitational, and was voted Girls Outstanding Athlete in the 4A-6A division. She was also named this week as the Gatorade Girls’ Cross Country Player of the Year for Utah. She won her third straight 5A state cross country title last November and is the first Woods Cross High athlete to ever win a Gatorade award in that sport.

Also Athletes of the Week – the state 6A championship golf team at Davis High. Team members  include Cheyenne Hansen, Victoria Castro, Quinn Shupe, Hannah Karras, Bridgette Volk and Halle Johnston.

Other female nominees were:

Annie Salazar, Bountiful softball, with 3 RBIs and pitching 4 shutout innings in a key win over Farmington.

Jade Valdez, Woods Cross softball, with two pitching victories over Bonneville and Viewmont.

Ryann Franich, Farmington girls lacrosse, who had 6 goals and 3 assists in wins over Bonneville and Woods Cross.

Sarah Wilkinson, Bountiful track, 8th in the 300 hurdles at BYU invite.
