Athletes of the Week

Davis Journal is partnering with Mountain Orthopaedics of Bountiful for our Athletes of the Week contest. Winners were chosen by our Journal sportswriters with input from local coaches.

Our male athlete of the week is Jack Hinkle, Woods Cross boys tennis, who won Region 5’s first singles title. He has an excellent chance to enjoy success at this weekend’s state 5A tennis tournament at Liberty Park.

Other male nominees were:

Brayden Allen, Woods Cross boys tennis, who won Region 5’s third singles title.

James Thomson and Andrew Harrison, Woods Cross boys tennis, winners of Region 5’s second doubles title.

Luke Jacobs, Viewmont baseball, with a double, a home run and two RBIs in a loss to Skyline.

Truman Duryea, Bountiful baseball, who two-hit Park City in a state play-in game and also doubled in a run in the game.

Abe Ashby, Farmington boys soccer, who scored four goals and two assists in an 8-0 state tourney win over Payson.

Rhett Rice, Davis boys lacrosse, who scored six goals and had four assists in a win over Syracuse.

Brayden Buckley, Farmington boys lacrosse, who scored four goals and had four assists in a win over Bountiful.

Our female athlete of the week is Savana Walker, Viewmont softball, with 11 RBIs in a game to end the regular season and in a state tourney win over Provo.

Other female nominees were:

Alix Thaxton, Davis softball, with 5 RBIs in games against Farmington and Copper Hills.

Shambre Maestas, Bountiful softball, who threw a two-hitter in a win over Box Elder.

Libby Clark, Woods Cross softball, who had 5 RBIs in state playoff losses to Salem Hills.

Sam Wilkes, Davis girls lacrosse, with 11 goals and one assist in a close loss to Brighton and a win over Syracuse.
