Braves’ teams finish prep season at state

Girls golf

The Lady Braves finished 7th in the state 5A golf tournament contested at Spanish Oaks in Spanish Fork. Senior Vanna Einerson was the top golfer for Bountiful, finishing with rounds of 80 and 74 at 8-over. That was good for 5th place individually.

Senior Julia Springer finished tied for 32nd at 54-over. Other scorers for the Braves were sophomore Holland Staker, 37th at 57-over; junior Kylie Ohlson, tied for 41st at 63-over; junior Molli Murri, tied for 43rd at 64-over; and freshman Breea Patterson, 55th at 76-over.

Boys tennis

At the 5A boys tennis state tournament, senior Soren Mickelson, playing in second singles, won his first round match against Alta’s Jordan Robinson 6-3 6-4. He advanced to play Coen Wooley of Park City, falling 6-2 6-0. Mickelson finished the season with a record of 9-4.

The Braves’ first singles team of senior Alex Eyring and sophomore Zach Eyring won their first round match against Salem Hills’ Tag Brower and Stephen Strong by a score of 6-2 6-7 (3) 6-1. They lost in the second round to Brighton’s Owen Hopkin and Fred Owen 5-7 6-2 6-3--two marathon matches for the Bountiful brothers. They finished the season with a record of 11-2.

Girls lacrosse

The Braves earned a third seed in Division C for the first-ever girls lacrosse state tournament, and got a first-round bye. But their season ended when they were upset by 14th seeded Westlake 14-7 in the second round. Bountiful finished region play at 4-6 and overall at 6-8. The Braves were outscored 125-151 on the season.

Boys lacrosse

Bountiful blasted Copper Hills 19-4 in the opening round of the Division B boys state lacrosse tournament, moving into a quarterfinal match with Skyview on May 21 (after our press deadline). The Braves finished 8-2 in region (second place) and were 10-7 on the year entering the game against Skyview.

Boys soccer

Farmington ended the Braves’ season in the second round of the state 5A soccer tourney, besting Bountiful 3-1. The Braves beat Timpanogos 1-0 in the first round and finished the year 10-7 overall. Dallin Burgin led the team in scoring with 10 goals on the year, followed by Kalei Medeirnos with 5. Keeper Parke Hayford had three shutouts this season. 

Track and field

At this year’s 5A state championships held at Davis High School, the Braves were 12th in boys team score with 14 points and 23rd in girls team with 4 points. Here’s how Bountiful did in events:

Senior Dalton Mortensen placed 7th in the 3200 meters

The team of Sammi Stewart, Sami Adamson, Sarah Wilkinson, Isabella Hanks, Eden Roberts and Macie Johnson placed 5th in the 4 x 800 meter relay. Four runners from those six were in the finals.

The team of Kimball Mason, Kohl Sanders, Andrew Jensen, Ethan Mabey, Mortensen and Daniel Leszynski placed in the 4 X 800 relay. Four runners from those six were in the finals.

Connor Draper placed 4th in the 100 meters.

Draper also placed 7th in the 200 meters.
