FARMINGTON— Members of the South Davis Communications Council of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Life Point Church of Farmington, coordinated in an effort to give back to first responders in the area by gathering donations of stuffed animals and blankets. These items are used to help comfort young children who have gone through a traumatic event.

The donations were presented at both the Farmington Police and Fire stations on May 5 by members of the council.

“We are so grateful for the support we have received and are amazed at how many people care,” said Farmington Police Chief Wayne Hansen.

Restaurants such as Papa Johns, Jersey Mikes, Krispy Kreme and Sticky Bird also donated food and gift cards to the first responders. Donations were also made to the Children’s Justice Center and Crisis Center.

“We were amazed at how many donations we received from the community,” said council director Sally Hollingshead.

Both stations were also presented with thank you notes from children in the community.

“Our city has continued to grow, and we have felt we have created a family community. This support is unexpected, but we are so grateful,” said Fire Chief Guido Smith.

Many people came to support the event such as the Mayor Jim Talbot, City Manager Shane Pace and members of the city council. Service projects like these are not a new thing for the Communications Council.

“We try to find different opportunities where we can help out. We have about 10 couples who volunteer to help out with these kinds of events,” Hollingshead said. These types of service projects have been put on for many years with the couples all coming from the Farmington Oakridge Stake.

She said Farmington residents are grateful for all their first responders and everything they do for the community. They hope that they can continue to provide support and encouragement.
