BOUNTIFUL—Davis Technical College hosted its 28th Annual Golf Tournament on June 16, at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course. The tournament brought together 144 golfers, Davis Tech Foundation members, and corporate sponsors to enjoy a game of golf and raise money. The event raised $60,000 for scholarships.

“Each year, this event brings together many industry and community partners to support Davis Tech’s mission of changing lives in our community,” said Foundation Director Marcie Valdez. “Last year, the Foundation provided more than $223,000 in scholarships to 399 students. The golf tournament is our only fundraiser.”

A scholarship’s impact on the life of a student is more than just financial. It removes barriers and reduces the anxiety a student may feel.

“I have made many sacrifices, both personal and financial, to be here to further my education,” said Surgical Technology student Kris Tanner, who benefited from last year’s tournament donations. “To receive this scholarship was a great sigh of relief, knowing I could focus more fully on my studies without the added worry of my dwindling savings.”

Seventeen major sponsors donated to this year’s tournament, including Signature Sponsor Young Automotive Group. Silver sponsors were Texas Roadhouse, Altabank, Method Studies, Ogden Clinic, KIHOMAC, Hughes General Contractors, Goldenwest Credit Union, and Holly Frontier. Bronze sponsors included Gramoll Construction, Ed Kenley Ford, America First Credit Union, Hillcrest Bank, Davis Hospital and Medical Center, Orbit Irrigation, and Tanner Clinic.

“Whatever you are, be a good one,” Tanner said. “I am passionate about surgery, and wherever this opportunity takes me, I hope to use it to provide meaningful care for others and make a difference.”

Davis Technical College was established in 1978 and provides open enrollment, competency-based training for high school and adult students in Davis and Morgan County.
