Bountiful, Viewmont take Region 5 XC titles

LAYTON—Bountiful High took the boys’ team title at the Region 5 cross country championships on Oct. 6, while Viewmont High captured the girls’ title. Both races were run in Layton City Park.
The Redhawks finished with 53 points, edging Viewmont who was second at 61. Woods Cross finished third as a team at 66.
Just as he did at the Davis District Championships in September, Woods Cross junior Sam Hansen ran off with the medalist honors, finishing in a time of 15:50.0 and nipping Northridge’s Will Luoma by just two-tenths of a second. Bountiful junior Andrew Jensen was third at 16:09.9, Viewmont senior Andrew Wadley was fourth at 16:11.0, and Northridge senior Owen Pollard was fifth at 16:13.6.
Other locals in the top 10 were Bountiful junior Adam Mabey (7th, 16:24.5), Viewmont sophomore Gabe Hooper (8th, 16:27.0), Woods Cross senior Tim Clarke (9th, 16:27.2) and Bountiful freshman Simon Barlow (10th, 16.34.2)
The Lady Vikings finished with 50 points, while Bountiful was second at 53. Woods Cross finished fifth as a team at 108.
It was Box Elder sophomore Kambree Cragun who won the race in a time of 19:12.8. Viewmont junior Brynn Rees was second at 19:22.8, while Woods Cross senior Emery Smith was third at 19:25.1. Bountiful senior Sammi Stewart finished fourth at 19:25.5, and Woods Cross freshman Katie Hansen was fifth at 19:27.4.
Other locals in the top 10 were Bountiful senior Isabella Hanks (6th, 19:50.8), Bountiful senior Ellie Robinson (7th, 19:51.9), and Viewmont junior Quincy Wadley (10th, 20:00.6).
Teams will now prepare for the Utah State Cross Country Championships set for Oct. 27 at the Rose Park Complex in Salt Lake City.
