Autumn is a time of colorful leaves, hot chocolate, and pumpkins. While it is easy to purchase pumpkins at the local supermarket or big box store, it does not compare to the memorable moments of visiting a pumpkin patch and selecting your favorite pumpkin. Kaysville residents enjoyed a trip down memory lane when Our Kaysville Story’s Facebook page administrator Kristine Murdock posted a 1969 story about Alpheus and Ivy Harvey, who lived on East Center Street in Kaysville.

The Harveys welcomed children from miles around to select a pumpkin from their yard. This was such a popular tradition that Mrs. Harvey, a school teacher at Kaysville Elementary, was dubbed “The Pumpkin Lady.” Kaysville residents remembered her fondly, complimenting her generosity for having a pumpkin for each student as well as praising her teaching skills. Kaysville’s Jeff Fillin said Mrs. Harvey was his “favorite teacher, 2nd grade at Kaysville Elementary.”

During this season of giving thanks, may we remember and honor those people, especially teachers, whose generous hearts and kind souls still resonate with us throughout our lives.
