Davis began its season with two wins while Bountiful and Woods Cross won their two games this week. Farmington and Viewmont were winless in preseason play.

Davis

Davis defeated Bonneville 41-39 Nov. 30. The Darts got off to a quick start going up 16-3 after the first quarter, but only scoring 15 points through the next two quarters let the Lakers back in the game and it became a battle in the final frame in the close win.

Kylee Mabry put in 20 points for Davis with Taylor Leavitt and Kendra Kitchen combining for 14 more points to help the offense.

Against Wasatch Dec. 2, the Darts won 37-20. Davis went up 15-7 by halftime and scored 14 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

“We played better than our first game. Maybe we just had first game jitters,” said head coach Anne Jones. “We played some great team defense against a very physical Wasatch team. Both teams seemed a bit off on offense, but it’s still really early in the season. I was proud of our team and the effort they gave.”

Mabry had 13 points to lead the team with Kitchen adding nine.

Farmington

Farmington lost to Highland 57-38 Nov. 30. The Phoenix were down just five points at halftime, but managed only 14 points the rest of the way in the 19-point loss.

“It was not a great game,” said head coach Van Price. “We lost to the much bigger team.”

Delaney Baker led the team with 16 points, six rebounds and four blocks.

Against Pleasant Grove Dec. 2, Farmington lost to 65-47.

The teams were knotted at 16-all after the first quarter until the Vikings went up six at the break. The Phoenix gave up 37 points in the second half in the loss.

“We started out well and took a good lead, but things soon fell apart,” Price said. “Shots wouldn’t fall for us and the game turned in favor of Pleasant Grove.”

Courtney Christiansen and Baker both scored 11 points to lead Farmington with Talin Stimpson adding 10. Baker recorded a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds as well.

Farmington is now 1-2 early in the season.

Bountiful

Bountiful defeated Skyline 49-38 Nov. 30. The Redhawks came out strong with a 19-point first quarter – to the Eagles’ 10 points – and that proved to be the difference as the teams were nearly even the rest of the game.

Taylor Harvey put in 20 points to lead Bountiful with Lizzy McConkie adding 10.

Against Stansbury Dec. 2, the Redhawks won 52-29. Bountiful scored 15 points in the first quarter – to the Stallions’ six – and kept its foot on the gas the whole game in the big win.

Riley Johnson led offensively with 19 points while McConkie had 15 and Harvey 12.

The Redhawks are 3-0 to start the year.

Viewmont

Viewmont lost to Olympus 59-23 Nov. 30. The Vikings were down 10 early and then 13 at halftime. A one-point third quarter blew open the game with the Titans taking control and holding Viewmont to just six more points to end the game.

“We played poorly and are in the process of figuring out our best plan of action to get better,” said head coach Roger Farnsworth.

Grace Mackay was the leading scorer with nine points.

Against Timpview Dec. 2, the Vikings lost 52-43. Viewmont battled back from being down 11 points after the first quarter to just 27-20 at halftime. The teams played an even second half but Viewmont couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

“We’re starting to get in basketball shape and we played much better,” Farnsworth said.

Emma Mulitalo and Kristina Gunnell both scored 14 points to lead the Vikings.

Still looking for its first win of the season, Viewmont faced Skyline Dec. 3 and had an eight point lead at half and were up seven entering the final quarter. But, the Vikings managed just five points to end the game in a 62-56 loss.

Gunnell led with 14 points while Mulitalo and Mackay added 11 each.

Viewmont is 0-4 to begin the season.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross defeated Clearfield 56-37 Nov. 30. The Wildcats went up 23-11 by halftime until a 22-point third quarter extended the team’s lead in the big win.

“We played a much better game against Clearfield than we did [last week] against Layton,” said head coach David Simon. “Our defense stepped up much better and our all-around communication was better. It was a good win for us.”

Georgia Hatton scored 20 points with Kenna Cowley adding 12 and Sofia Mokofisi 11. The trio combined for 12 steals with Mokofisi leading on the board with six rebounds.

“We still have much to improve on and the girls are working hard at it,” Simon said.

Woods Cross defeated Hillcrest 47-27 Dec. 3 to improve to 2-1 on the season. After going down five to start the game, the Wildcats scored 21 points in the second quarter to take control and held a 31-21 lead at the break. Woods Cross then held Hillcrest to just six points in the second half, including 0 points in the fourth quarter.

“Things eventually went well for us,” Simon said. “We got off to a bit of a slow start, but we made the right adjustments and the girls picked things up for us. Our bench players really stepped up for us to help settle things down and get us going. We made some free throws that also helped us to get going.”

Cowley and Arta Bytyoi both scored nine points to lead the team.
