Farmington

Farmington lost to Syracuse 57-46 Jan. 18. The Phoenix got off to a slow start, going down seven by the end of the first quarter. The rest of the way they played fairly even with the Titans, but couldn’t overcome the early deficit in the 11-point loss. Talin Stimpson was Farmington’s leading scorer with 17 points.

“We had a cold night shooting,” said head coach Van Price.

Against Weber Jan. 21, the Phoenix won 35-19. Farmington was down early before going up 18-13 at the break. A 17-point second half – to the Warriors’ six points – widened the winning margin.

“We played great defense and really rebounded well,” Price said.  “No Weber player scored more than five points.”

Stimpson again led the team in scoring, this time with 10 points while Vic Clinger scored eight points off the bench. Courtney Christiansen was big on the boards with 13 rebounds.

The Phoenix are now 2-3 in Region 1 play and 7-7 on the year.

Viewmont

Viewmont defeated Northridge 39-36 Jan. 18. The Vikings held a 26-17 edge at the break, but scored just 13 points in the second half, narrowly edging out the Knights.

“It was a hard-fought defensive battle,” said head coach Roger Farnsworth.

Against Bonneville Jan. 21, Viewmont won 47-35. After being down early, the Vikings battled back in the second half to score 28 points – while holding the Lakers to just 13 – in the win.

Viewmont began Region 5 play 2-0 and is now 5-10 so far this season.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross lost by 21 points to Bountiful Jan. 18. The Wildcats put up just seven points in the first half and in the second, they managed 16, but couldn’t close the gap in the big loss.

“It was a tough night for us,” said head coach David Simon. “There were some things that we executed really well and others we did not. “We struggled to score most of the night and much of that credit goes to their defense and how they were playing us. We just didn’t respond real well. Now we have a much better idea of what we are up against moving forward in region play.”

Sofia Mokofisi scored 11 points to lead Woods Cross.

Against Northridge Jan. 21, the Wildcats won 36-22. Woods Cross got off to a strong start early, going up 17 to 8 after the first quarter. The game was fairly even the rest of the way to give the Wildcats its first region win.

“We executed really well on the defensive end of the floor,” Simon said. “We had a game plan and the girls did a really good job at following through with the plan. We did just enough offensively to win the game. I was really proud of the girls and the effort they gave to get the win. I think we need to be better offensively to continue to improve and win games,” Simon said.

Georgia Hatton led the team in scoring with 11 points.

Woods Cross is now 9-4 overall and 1-1 in Region 5.
