Bountiful and Viewmont both won their two Region 5 games last week to stay at the top of Region 5 with 4-0 marks. Davis, Farmington and Woods Cross went 1-1 in their games.

Davis

Davis, the fourth-best team in 6A, lost to top-ranked Fremont 55-37 Jan. 25. The Darts were losing by five after the first quarter but managed to score just one point before halftime and went into the break down 15 points. Despite hanging with the Silverwolves in the second half, the early deficit was too much to overcome. Kylee Mabry led Davis with 10 points with Kendra Kitchen adding nine.

“Starting the second half of an already tough region, everyone is better,” said head coach Anne Jones. “Layton gave us everything we could handle. With a few adjustments at halftime we came out with more focus and energy and we were able to pull out the win.”

Against Layton Jan. 28, the Darts won 53-40. Davis turned a five-point halftime deficit into a win with 38 second-half points. Makayla Patterson put in 16 points as the team’s top scorer with Mabry adding 15 and Kitchen 11.

The Darts are now 6-1 in Region 1, sitting in second place, with a 14-2 overall record.

Farmington

Farmington defeated Clearfield 61-18 Jan. 25. The Phoenix put the game away in the first half, going up 42-9 over the Falcons. They again held Clearfield to nine points in the second half in the blowout win.

“We played great defense forcing numerous turnovers and holding the Falcons to just 18 points,” said head coach Van Price.

Courtney Christiansen had 13 points – shooting 62% – to lead the way with Delaney Baker putting in 11 and grabbing seven rebounds. Madison Hauck also recorded seven boards while scoring eight points.

Against Fremont Jan. 28, Farmington lost 75-45. The Phoenix were down 39-16 by the break in the big loss. Baker scored 10 points with Hauck adding nine for Farmington.

The Phoenix hold the fourth spot in Region 1 with a 3-4 mark and are 8-8 on the season.

Bountiful

Fourth-ranked Bountiful beat Bonneville 50-33 Jan. 25. The Redhawks broke open a three-point game through three quarters with 20 points in the fourth quarter to run away with the game. Taylor Harvey had a huge game with 22 points while Claire Cook scored 14.

Against Northridge, Bountiful won 62-42, widening a 13-point halftime margin to a 20-point win.

Harvey’s 15 points led the way for the Redhawks with Abby Orme and Lizzy McConkie scoring 13 each.

Bountiful is tied for first in Region 5 with Viewmont at 4-0 and holds an 11-3 overall record.

Viewmont

Viewmont defeated Woods Cross 51-25 Jan. 25. The Vikings not only came out strong, scoring 19 points in the first quarter, their defense held the Wildcats scoreless over the first eight minutes and to just two foul shots through the first half to lead 34-2.

“We played great defense and shot really well finally,” said head coach Roger Farnsworth.

Kristina Gunnell was the leading scorer with 13 points while eight others – Emma Mulitalo (eight points), Addi Welsh (seven), AnnaBella Uffens (seven), Kalee Smith (seven), Kalli Cannon (three), Rachel Robert (two), Callie Peterson (two) and Sophie Mangum (two) contributed to the offense.

Against Box Elder Jan. 28, Viewmont won 54-43. The Vikings were down two entering the fourth quarter before putting up 20 points in the final frame to win by 11.

“We had a great effort and outworked a pretty good team,” Farnsworth said. “It was a good road win for us.”

Despite Viewmont’s 7-10 season record, they are tied for the top spot in Region 5 with Bountiful with an undefeated mark through four games.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross found themselves down 44-6 entering the fourth quarter against Viewmont Jan. 25. The Wildcats scored 19 points in the final frame in the big loss.

“Whatever could go wrong for us went wrong,” said head coach David Simon. “Credit Viewmont for shooting the ball so well and creating problems for us. We did not handle the situation well.” Kenna Cowley scored 10 of Woods Cross’ points in the game.

Against Bonneville Jan. 28, the Wildcats won 40-12. They were up 18-9 at halftime and held the Lakers to just three points the rest of the way.

“I was really, really proud of the girls for their effort and resilience to come back from the way we played against Viewmont to the way we played against Bonneville,” said Simon. “Their focus and execution of our game plan was right on and they all bought in. It is a very tough region from top to bottom and you have to be ready every night to play your best.”

Georgia Hatton had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead Woods Cross with Arta Bytygi adding nine points and four boards.

The Wildcats are now tied for third with Box Elder at 2-2 in Region 5 and 10-5 on the year.
