Bountiful won its 11th straight game and remained undefeated through eight Region 5 matchups. Davis, who is ranked third in 6A, is 9-1 in Region 1 and sits behind the state’s top team, Fremont. Viewmont is holding steady in second place in Region 5 with two more wins last week. Farmington split games and Woods Cross lost its only contest.

Davis

Third-ranked Davis defeated Syracuse 44-36 Feb. 8. The Darts went up early and held a five-point lead at halftime before holding off a late run by the Titans.

“This was an important game for both teams and was intense from start to finish,” said head coach Anne Jones. “Syracuse is loaded with really great players – perimeter players who can shoot and posts inside who can defend and score.”

Kylee Mabry led Davis with 17 points while Kendra Kitchen also scored in double figures with 11.

“Our defense was tough and helped fuel our offense for the win,” said Jones. “Kylee played a great all-around game on both ends of the floor with Kendra Kitchen and Makayla Patterson holding down the middle. Sierra Passey and Taylor Leavitt held their shooters to single digits. It was just an all-around team effort. I’m so proud of how they came in and handled Syracuse’s pressure.”

The Darts remain in second in the Region 1 standings with a 9-1 mark, and are 17-2 overall.

Farmington

Farmington beat Layton 40-35 Feb. 8. The Phoenix turned a one-point deficit at the break into a win by scoring 21 points in the second half.

Courtney Christiansen had 12 points to lead the way while Marissa Marchant, starting in place of the injured Maddie Hauck, put up nine points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Against Syracuse Feb. 11, Farmington lost 61-32. The Phoenix squad was down by three points after the first quarter before the Titans went up 17 by halftime and the rout was on.

“The girls didn’t play well at all,” said head coach Van Price. “No one could hit any shots.”

Christiansen led the team with six points.

Farmington is in fourth place in Region 1 with a 4-6 record and has an overall 8-10 season mark so far.

Bountiful

Bountiful, who is ranked fourth in 5A, defeated Woods Cross 45-31 Feb. 8. The Redhawks came out strong with a 16-7 lead by the end of one and gradually increased their lead throughout.

Hayley Smith and Claire Cook both scored 10 points while Taylor Harvey added nine and Lizzy McConkie and Riley Johnson had eight each.

Against Box Elder Feb. 11, Bountiful won 73-43, going up 45-19 by halftime and cruised to the big win.

McConkie, Johnson and Harvey had monster games with 18 points each to lead the Redhawks.

Bountiful is now 8-0 in Region 5 and 15-3 this season.

Viewmont

Viewmont had a 47-32 win over Northridge Feb. 8, taking control of the game from the start in going up 11 by halftime and cruising to the win.

Grace Mackay and Emma Mulitalo led the Vikings offensively with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

“We played great defense again,” said head coach Roger Farnsworth.

Against Bonneville Feb. 11, Viewmont won 46-33, turning a tight game into a double-digit win with a 31-point second half effort.

“We played very good defense again and pulled away in the second half,” Farnsworth said.

The Vikings remain in second in the Region 5 standings and hold a 9-12 overall record.

Woods Cross

After being down 12 points at halftime to Bountiful Feb. 8, Woods Cross played fairly even in the second frame, but it was too little, too late in the 45-31 loss. Sofia Mokofisi led the Wildcats with nine points.

Woods Cross fell to 3-5 in Region 5, currently sitting in fourth place, and are 11-8 on the year. λ
