ountiful’s wins over Bonneville and Northridge last week rounded out Region 5 play in undefeated fashion. The Redhawks begin the 5A state tournament this week as the number two overall seed.  In other action, Viewmont and Farmington won their two region games while Davis and Woods Cross split both of their matchups.

Bountiful

Bountiful defeated Bonneville 47-25 Feb. 15. The Redhawks broke open a close game after the first quarter into a 10-point halftime lead and outscored the Lakers by 12 in the second half. Taylor Harvey’s 16 points led Bountiful with Riley Johnson adding 10.

Against Northridge Feb. 18, the Redhawks won 42-35. The game was tight throughout the first half with Bountiful holding a three-point edge at the break. But, the Knights went up four to end the third quarter and the Redhawks’ 20 point quarter made the difference in the end.

Harvey again had 16 points to lead Bountiful, who finished the regular season undefeated in Region 5 in 10 games and 17-3 overall.

Davis

Davis defeated Clearfield 63-21 Feb. 15, going up 21-1 by the end of the first quarter. The rout continued with the Darts holding the Falcons to 20 points the rest of the way.

“It was senior night for us, so it was exciting to get the win for our seven amazing seniors,” said head coach Anne Jones. “Some have played for us since they were freshmen so it was fun to see all of them score and get some good minutes playing together.”

Kendra Kitchen led Davis offensively with 15 points while senior Kylee Mabry added 11. Seven others scored in the game – senior Sierra Passey (eight points), senior Morgan Burnett (eight), senior Makayla Patterson (six), senior Isabel Coleman (six), senior Cheyenne Hansen (four), senior Taylor Leavitt (three) and Kate Richards (two).

Against Fremont, the Darts lost 60-34. Davis was down by 21 points by halftime and managed just 15 points in the second half. Passey’s 11 points led the Darts.

Two of the team’s losses this season have been against top-ranked Fremont and they maintained their second-place standing in Region 1 with an 18-3 season record.

Farmington

Farmington beat Weber 50-26 Feb. 15. The Phoenix squad held the Warriors to just two points in the early going and were up 27-12 by halftime.

“We had a great game,” said head coach Van Price.

Marissa Marchant had a career-high 17 points to lead Farmington. “She shot 60 percent from the field and hit 3 three-pointers,” Price said. “Not bad for a post player.”

Talin Stimpson and Delaney Baker put in 12 and 10 points, respectively. Baker also pulled down 14 rebounds to complete a double-double.

Against Clearfield Feb. 17, Farmington won 44-22.

Stimpson scored 13 points with Courtney Christiansen adding nine.

The win evened the Phoenix squad’s Region 1 mark at 6-6 and 10-10 overall.

Viewmont

Viewmont squeaked out a win over Woods Cross 37-36 Feb. 15. The game was even at 12-all after one, but the Vikings scored just seven points to go into halftime down five points. Scoring eight in the final quarter – while locking down defensively to allow just two points – proved to be the difference in the one-point win.

“Both teams played great defense,” said head coach Roger Farnsworth. “We won a nail-biter.”

Emma Mulitalo scored 12 points to lead Viewmont with Kalee Smith, Grace MacKay and Kristina Gunnell adding seven each.

Against Box Elder Feb. 18, the Vikings found themselves down early before a 36-point second half completed a comeback to win 53-49.

“We were down 10 at halftime on senior night and played with all heart the second half,” said Farnsworth.

MacKay, a senior, had a huge night with 21 points while Gunnell and Mulitalo also scored in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The other four Vikings’ seniors are Kaylee Smith, Kalli Cannon, Sophie Mangum and Kate Pitt.

Viewmont remained in second in Region 5 with an 8-2 record and an 11-12 overall mark.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross led most of the game against Viewmont Feb. 15, but managed just two points in the final quarter to lose by one point.

“This was heartbreaking as our girls played their hearts out,” said head coach David Simon. “After our game last Friday and then the first time we played Viewmont we were a little down. I was really proud of the way we responded. The first time we played them it wasn’t a very close game and we struggled. The girls really filled their roles and stepped up in this game. I wish I could have done more to help us get the win.”

Georgia Hatton’s 19 points led the Wildcats who got offense from just three other players.

Against Bonneville Feb. 18, Woods Cross won 36-27. The Wildcats broke open an 11-all game at halftime with a 25-point showing in the second half. Hatton had 20 points to lead all scorers.

Woods Cross is now 4-6 in Region 5 and 12-9 on the season. λ
