Davis lacrosse teams top five in state

T

he fourth-ranked Davis High girls lacrosse team beat Clearfield last week to remain undefeated through four games while the Darts’ boys team, who is fifth in the state, won two games to improve to 6-1.

Boys

Davis

Against Clearfield March 29, the Darts won 17-2, going up 11-1 by halftime and scoring six second-half goals to finish the game.

Rhett Rice Davis with five goals and two assists with Emmett Rice (four goals, two assists) and Mason Gagner (four goals) also helped offensively.

“Clearfield kept fighting all night and made us earn everything,” said head coach Dillon Yocom, also noting others’ contributions. “Nick Johnson did a great job at face off for us, winning 77 percent of his face offs. Our young guys are stepping up and doing their job which is great to see.”

Against Syracuse March 31, the Darts won 21-9, led on offense by Rhett Rice, Emmett Rice and Connor Johnson and Johnson carrying the team with his face offs that gave Davis multiple possessions.

“Syracuse is a very good team and plays very fundamental which makes us earn everything we get on the field,” Yocom said. “It was a good high note to end on before we head into spring break and prepare to come back and play two great opponents in Roy and Weber.”

Farmington

Farmington lost to Weber 12-8 March 29. The Phoenix squad were led by Dexter Snell with three goals and one assist and Mason Hepworth with two goals and two assists. Also contributing offensively were Nick Carrino (one goal, three assists), Luke Guile (one goal) and Cooper Hyde (one goal).

Against Clearfield March 31, Farmington won 18-4, finishing strong after leading 11-1 at halftime. Snell’s five goals and two assists along with Hepworth’s four goals and five assists were instrumental in the win.

Also scoring for the Phoenix were Cooper Hyde (four goals, one assist), Kai Leavitt (two goals), Nick Carrino (one goal, one assist), Mitch Milne (one goal) and Tyson Beynon (one goal).

Farmington’s record is 2-4 so far this year.

Bountiful

Bountiful, who is ranked fifth in 5A, defeated Brighton 8-6 March 29. 

The Redhawks were led by Hayden Hanson with four goals while Jamison Bain (one goal, one assist), Cole Terry (one goal), Teegan Dougher (one goal) and Porter Hadley (one goal) also helped the offense.

Against Highland April 1, Bountiful won 21-3, finishing off a 15-2 lead at the break with six more goals in the second half. 

Hanson’s four goals and six assists, along with Bain’s four goals, were tops for the Redhawks. Also contributing offensively were Dougher (three goals, three assists), Isaac Stout (two goals), Hadley (one goal, two assists), Grady Clemons (one goal), Jaxon Demorest (one goal), Faletau Satuala (one goal), Declan Watt (one goal), Smith Alley (one goal), Tate Terry (one goal), Nathan Horne (one goal) and Cole Terry (two assists).

Bountiful is 4-1 this season.

Viewmont

Viewmont didn’t play this week and currently holds a 2-2 record.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross defeated Mountain Crest 10-4 April 1.

The Wildcats are now 4-1 so far this season.

Girls

Davis

Davis beat Clearfield 6-5 March 29.

“It was not a good game for us. Nothing seemed to be going right – we were forcing our passes on offense and turning over the ball and that was only compounded by our inability to get stops on defense,” said head coach Makenzie Hekking. “It was a much closer game than I think anyone expected and we narrowly escaped with a ‘W’.”

Brinlee Wilding led the Darts with three goals with Macie Wood (one goal, two assists), Kaydence Johnson (one goal), Mackenzie Coleman (one assist) and Emma Williams (one assist) also contributing offensively.

Farmington

Farmington defeated Clearfield 19-8.

“We played very well as a team and had many star players, including Riley Sant on midfield, Lauren Enright on attack and Tai Aston on defense,” said head coach Annabelle Roche.

Sant had three goals and an assist while Enright (three goals), Grace Kunzler (three goals), Alexa Stephens (two goals), Micah Farr (two goals), Hailey Larsen (two goals), Ryann Franich (one goal, one assist), Avery Yates (one goal), Kate Carter (one goal) and Edi Bayles (one goal) added to the win.

The Phoenix squad improved to 2-3 on the year.

Bountiful

Bountiful lost to Skyline 15-5 March 28. The Redhawks’ record dropped to 2-2 this season.

Viewmont

Viewmont is still looking for its first win of the season after two losses this week.

On March 29, the Vikings lost to Brighton 20-2. Hannah Bird and Toree Wheatley scored for Viewmont with Avery Drake providing an assist.

Against Herriman March 31, the Vikings fell 17-1 with Eliza Runolfson scoring the team’s lone goal.

The Vikings are now 0-6.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross narrowly defeated Skyline 10-9 March 30 for its first win of the season. The Wildcats’ record stands at 1-3.l
