BOUNTIFUL—The 47th annual BDAC Statewide Competition will open an exhibit to the public on Friday, May 13 at the Bountiful Davis Art Center. The competition showcases the best in recent art in all media by artists who have lived in Utah. The exhibit will be on display Tuesdays-Fridays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays noon-5 p.m.

“We’re fortunate this year to have Nancy Rivera, Arts Administrator, Artist and Curator with Utah Division of Arts & Museums as our special guest juror,” said Alysa Revell, BDAC executive director. “We have a total of 25 pieces that were accepted and will be judged by Nancy prior to our opening. They will be on display through July 16.”

Three of the pieces will be awarded cash prizes – $1,000 for first place, $700 for second place, and $500 for third place. There will also be honorable mentions awarded.

The opening ceremony will be held in conjunction with the unveiling of the mural chosen for the north side wall of the center, at 90 North Main Street. Artist Hank Mattson was selected by the Bountiful City Council and commissioned to do the work. His mural design moves across faces of the state’s landscapes while simultaneously changing seasons – starting in spring in the desert, moving to summer in the forest, then to autumn in the Salt Lake Valley and winter on the mountain slopes. The unveiling ceremony will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and Mattson will be present to meet the public.
