Lacrosse back to back winners: DHS, BHS and WXHS

F

or the second consecutive season – in the two years of official UHSAA sanctioning – the Davis High boys and girls teams have won Region 1 titles. The boys squad has gone 25-0 during that span while the girls have lost just two region games the past two years. The Bountiful High boys and Woods Cross High girls teams went undefeated through 10 games in Region 5 play to win their titles.

Davis Boys

Davis beat Weber 20-12 May 10 to end their regular season.

“We started fast and it was a great team win,” said head coach Dillon Yocom. “We had great offensive performances from Rhett and Emmett Rice. We played really good team offense and had lots of guys involved. Defensively, we played really fundamental and made some good players. Blake Lucas was great in the goal for us.”

Rhett and Emmett both had eight points with Rhett scoring eight goals and Emmett adding six along with two assists. Others contributing offensively were Connor Johnson (two goals, two assists), Eli Greenway (two goals, one assist), Nick Johnson (one goal, three assists), Ben Roylance (one goal, two assists), Ashton Wood (one assist) and Jake Dowdle (one assist).

The Darts completed a region sweep with a 14-0 record and a 15-1 overall mark.

Davis Girls

Davis beat Clearfield 13-3 May 9, coming out strong with five goals to shut out the Falcons during the first half and finishing the win with eight more goals.

Seven different Darts players scored goals, led by defender Tallulah Raser who switched to attacker in the second half and put in three goals. Freshman Esther Facer also netted her first varsity goal of the season.

Also contributing offensively were Kerri Norton (two goals, one assist), Kaydence Johnson (two goals, one assist), Ava Bair (two goals), Macie Wood (two goals) and Olivia Lifferth (one goal). Goalie Morgan Bunch recorded four saves in the cage, yielding just three goals in the game.

Against Weber May 10, Davis won 16-8, scoring eight goals in each half to beat the Warriors.

“We had nine different point contributors – eight of whom scored at least one goal,” said Makenzie Hekking. “Our team had 38 ground balls and seven caused turnovers led by Mackenzie Coleman with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers followed closely by Emma Williams who had six ground balls and one caused turnover.”

Wood led the Darts with three goals and three assists while Bair (three goals, one assist), Brinlee Wilding (three goals), Norton (two goals, one assist), Coleman (two goals), Johnson (one goal, one assist), Raser (one goal), Elisabeth Reid (one goal) and Lifferth (one assist) were also part of the team’s offense.

Hekking also noted her team’s 85 percent draw control percentage and goalie Morgan Bunch’s nine saves in the cage.

Davis lost to Corner Canyon 19-16 May 13 after being up 12-7 at the break and giving up nine second-half goals.

Bair’s four goals and an assist led the Darts while Wood (three goals), Norton (three goals), Lifferth (two goals, two assists), Johnson (two goals, one assist) and Coleman (two goals, one assist) also brought offense.

Davis finished the regular season with a 13-3 record and a 13-1 Region 1 mark.

Bountiful Boys

Bountiful defeated Northridge 17-0 May 9, scoring 11 first-half goals to take control of the game and added six more goals to shut out the Knights.

Hayden Hanson scored six goals and added three assists to lead the Redhawks offensively with Jamison Bain (four goals, one assist), Teegan Dougher (two goals, four assists), Isaac Stout (two goals), Cole Terry (one goal, one assist), Smith Alley (one goal) and Porter Hadley (one goal) also providing offense.

Against Viewmont May 11, Bountiful won 16-11 after being up six goals at the break and scoring four second-half goals to maintain a winning margin.

Bain led with six goals and an assist while Terry (three goals, three assists), Hanson (three goals, one assist), Dougher (two goals, four assists) and Declan Watt (two goals) were also part of the offense in the win.

The Redhawks then defeated Woods Cross 17-3 May 13, finishing off the win after being up 13-1 at halftime.

Hanson’s five goals and two assists led Bountiful with Nathan Horne (three goals), Bain (one goal, three assists), Dougher (one goal, three assists), Grady Clemons (one goal, one assist), Stout (one goal), Terr (one goal), Alley (one goal), Jensen Freeman (one goal), Hadley (one assist), Faletau Satuala (one assist) and Tate Terry (one assist).

Bountiful completed an undefeated run through Region 5 at 10-0 and finished the regular season 14-2.

Woods Cross Girls

Woods Cross beat Bonneville 18-7 May 10. The Wildcats were up 13-3 at the break and finished off the win despite a competitive second-half by the Lakers.

Samantha Atwood scored 10 goals to lead Woods Cross with offense also coming from Skylar Midgley (four goals), Ella Matthews (three), Maggie Preece (one) and Mylie Derrick (one assist).

Against Bountiful May 12, Woods Cross won 12-7 behind eight more goals from Atwood. Also contributing offensively were Matthews, Midgley, Sadie Allred and Ella Tyson who scored one goal each.

The Wildcats finished Region 5 play with an unblemished 10-0 mark and the regular season with an 11-3 record.λ
