‘Coats for Kids’ Car Show set for June 17-18

Jun 02, 2022 11:51AM ● By Krista Simonsen

The 24th annual Bountiful Rotary “Coats for Kids” Car show is scheduled for June 17 and 18 in Bountiful. The Rotary kicks off the event every year with a luncheon in May to thank our Major Sponsors, Bountiful City, law enforcement, the Jeep Posse and many others who help make the show a huge success.

This year we were honored to have Mayor Kendalyn Harris share with us her experience with helping at the show last year and how she looks forward to helping this year. The best part of the luncheon is hearing from teachers and principals from the elementary schools that receive vouchers.

This year Erin Webster, advocate for Bountiful and Adelaide Elementary schools, and Christian Westergard, counselor at Adelaide Elementary, spoke to us. Erin and Christian told us that 116 vouchers were distributed to children in need in Adelaide and 40 at Bountiful Elementary.

Erin said there is a desperate need for clothing and these children rarely get anything new. The fact that the children get to shop for warm winter clothing in their correct sizes gives the children confidence to fit in as well as being physically warm. They both said that the generosity of the voucher program for warm winter clothing allows them to work on providing other needs like food.

Rotarian Dave Van Otten, whose son attended the luncheon for the first time, said with a smile on his face, "after hearing those stories my son saw the vision of the Coats for Kids voucher program and how much help it serves in the community."

Bountiful Rotary would love to have everyone catch the spirit of service above self and attend the Car show in June to help raise money for warm winter clothing for children in our south Davis Elementary Schools. A special thanks to Eric Lee, owner of the Joy Luck Restaurant, for hosting our luncheon. l
