WEST BOUNTIFUL—A North Salt Lake man was killed and his daughter injured last week when they were hit while riding their bicycles in West Bountiful.

About 4 p.m. on July 21, Michael Scott Roberts, 53, and his 17-year-old daughter were riding east at 1054 West Pages Lane in West Bountiful when they were struck from behind by an eastbound pickup truck that had gone off the roadway into the shoulder. The driver continued for a short distance before coming to a stop, according to the West Bountiful Police.

Roberts died at the scene and his daughter was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable condition and is expected to survive, authorities said.

Sean Mikesell, 29, who was driving the truck, was evaluated at a nearby hospital then arrested and booked into the Davis County Jail for Negligent Automobile Homicide, Unsafe Lane Travel, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Police said an investigation is ongoing to determine what factors may have contributed to the crash.
