Bountiful makes it a clean sweep of Region 5; heads to state as No. 1 seed

Bountiful

Bountiful finished out the Region 5 schedule with a clean sweep in all 10 matches, concluding with a win over Bonneville 25-12, 25-6, 25-14 Oct. 25.

The Redhawks were led by the Harvey sisters who both recorded double-doubles – Jordyn had 15 kills and 11 digs while Taylor added 14 kills and 10 digs. Evi Chism nearly had one as well with 40 assists and nine digs.

Bountiful was undefeated through 10 region matches and had a 26-1 regular season record.

The Redhawks begin its 5A state title defense as the No. 1 seed in the state tournament and, after a first-round bye, will face the winner of the Box Elder/Alta match on Nov. 3. The remainder of the tournament will be held through the 5th at Utah Valley University.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross beat Viewmont 25-12, 25-17, 25-18 Oct. 25.

Annie Lewis and Olivia Ruy led the Wildcats in hitting efficiency while Akilisi Pahulu and Millie Oscarson also contributed and Akilisi ran the offense with 20 assists.

Woods Cross finished Region 5 play with a 5-5 record and a 12-15 season mark and is scheduled to face Payson Nov. 1 in the first round of the 5A state tournament.

Farmington

In its final match of the regular season Oct. 25, Farmington lost 3-1 to Syracuse 25-22, 19-25, 25-19, 25-21.

Sophie Wendt led the Phoenix with 10 kills while Lydia Schwemmer served up three aces. Defensively, Laina Whitney had five blocks at the net while four players – Mele Fiefia (20), Wendt (17), Schwemmer (16) and Jocelyn McQuivey (14) – accounted for 67 of the team’s 88 digs on the night.

Farmington ended Region 1 play with a 6-6 mark and the season with a 14-11 record. The 6A state tournament begins for the Phoenix Nov. 1 against Roy. 

Viewmont

Viewmont lost to Woods Cross in straight sets to conclude a 5-5 Region 5 showing and a 10-12 regular season record. 

The Vikings face Uintah Nov. 1 in the first round of the 5A state tournament.

Davis

Davis didn’t play this week, but the Darts will enter the 6A state tournament as the No. 5 seed. After a first-round bye, Davis will face the winner of Weber/Westlake Nov. 3.
