Farmington stays unbeaten in boys soccer; Region 5 play kicks off

Apr 14, 2023 05:05PM ● By Josh McFadden

This spring sport season may have had several interruptions, but these haven’t hindered the Farmington boys soccer team from finding success on the field.

Heading into its game this Friday at Davis, the Phoenix are a perfect 5-0 overall and atop Region 1 with a 4-0 mark. In its five games, Farmington has surrendered just one single goal while scoring 10. Three players have scored two goals apiece to lead the way. Chase Ashby, Boston Peterson and Gavin Warner have each found the back of the net twice. Peterson also has two assists, as does Cole Janke, who has one goal to his credit this season. Davis Wadsworth has been brilliant in the net as the team’s main goalie, having posted 3.5 shutouts.

Farmington didn’t play last week. However, following this Friday’s game, the Phoenix have a pair of games next week.

Davis

The Darts have played just three games this season, including two region contests. The Darts are 1-1 in those league matchups but haven’t played since upending Fremont 3-2 on March 17.

Davis played at Weber on Wednesday, after our press deadline. It hosts Farmington in a big game this Friday.

The Darts have tallied three goals in its three games so far this season. Bjorn Bergant. Miles Iverson and Rhett Nuenswander have each scored. Davis is still looking for its first shutout of the season.

Woods Cross

Region 5 games finally have finally gotten underway, and the Wildcats have gone 1-1 in the contests. The Wildcats are now 4-2 on the season overall.

On Tuesday, Woods Cross suffered its first region loss, falling to Northridge 2-1 at home. Aidan Moore second-half goal for the Wildcats, his first of the year. But it wasn’t quite enough to overcome Northridge.

The Wildcats play at Viewmont on Thursday and at Box Elder on Friday.

Bountiful

The Redhawks are also 1-1 in Region 5 action. Overall, Bountiful sits at 3-3 as of our press deadline. Bountiful has outscored its foes by a combined 10-5 on the year.

The Redhawks already had two games this week, both close two-point contests. First, the team outlasted Juan Diego 2-1 on Monday in an exciting double-overtime affair. Bountiful trailed 1-0 at halftime but forced overtime with a second-half goal. After a scoreless first overtime, the Redhawks avoided a shootout by scoring in the second overtime. Nick Crockett and Raymond Robinson scored for Bountiful, while Thomas Thorne and Elias Pacheco got assists.

The next day, the Redhawks lost a league game at home to Box Elder, 1-0. Once again, Bountiful went to extra time with its opponent. But Box Elder prevailed with a goal in the first overtime.

A busy week concludes with a Friday home game against Bonneville.

Viewmont

It has been a challenging year for Viewmont for a few reasons. Not only have the Vikings fought the weather like everyone else, but they have struggled in the win column. Viewmont is 1-4 overall and 0-2 in league play so far.

On Tuesday, Viewmont allowed a second-half goal to Bonneville and couldn’t find of its own, losing 1-0. It was the first time all season the Vikings have been shut out. The team has two more chances this week to pick up win No. 1 in Region 5. Viewmont hosts Woods Cross on Thursday and plays at Northridge on Friday.
