Ann Kemp Briscoe

Ann Kemp Briscoe (our sister, mother, grandmother, cousin, neighbor and friend) passed away on Oct. 18, 2023. She was born Feb. 26, 1935, in Logan, Utah, to Harry and Ruby Kemp. By all accounts Ann was a cheerful, happy and creative little girl.

She joyfully recounted to her children experiences growing up. She learned to play the piano, loved skating on the family’s homemade skating rink, and enjoyed family outings in Logan Canyon.

Ann was an excellent student and enjoyed her many friendships with classmates. She was editor of The Grizzly, the Logan High School newspaper. She received several awards for her academic achievements and was chosen to participate at Girls’ State.

Ann met Ray Briscoe in a group of friends and acquaintances and in 1954 they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their first years as a married couple took place at Utah State University and Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where Ann had a high clearance position as a secretary to an officer.

Ann and Ray moved to Bountiful, Utah, with Ray’s first job at Bountiful High School. They had four children, and Ann was active in book clubs, church callings, and community causes. Her conscience informed a lifelong passion for politics and current events. She especially enjoyed teaching cultural refinement lessons in Relief Society.

When her children were older, Ann returned to her college studies at the University of Utah and returned to work where she enjoyed the challenge and fulfillment of working as a medical transcriptionist. Beyond formal work and schooling, Ann’s active orientation toward curiosity and constant learning drove her every day rhythms and enriched the lives of many, most especially her descendants.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren love their grandmother for her ability to remember their favorite things and wrap gifts in special ways. She had a lifelong passion for nature in all its forms. Her love of beautiful flowers and plants is her lifelong signature, and she has shared this love with many, many others.

She is survived by four children: Joel (Christine) of Salt Lake City, Greg (Mary) of Orem, Heidi Holmes (Eric) of Bountiful, and Jon (Kaylin) of Sycamore, IL., in addition to 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her brothers Val (LuAnn), and John (Jean), both of Logan, Utah, and two sisters-in-law, Lola Briscoe, Providence, Utah, and Judi Kemp, Highland, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, David.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at the Val Verda Stake Center, 2651 South 500 West in Bountiful. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, from 6-8 p.m., at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street in Bountiful, and from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the Stake Center. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful.
