Bountiful

In a battle of the top Region 5 teams, Bountiful defeated Woods Cross 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 Oct. 24.

“This match was one of my favorites this season and a great way to end the season, and as undefeated region champs,” said head coach Kelsie White. “The girls came in focused and ready to compete right away. I told them before the game that if we play our game, focusing on staying on the attack and controlling our side, we will end on top. Each player on and off the court did this and contributed greatly to the win. Our front row hitters all had a great night thanks to our back row putting us in system. Hallie Hewlett had a great night and kept the offense running on tempo while adding three dumps herself.”

Junior Taylor Harvey led offensively with 18 kills while sophomore Milika Satuala added 16 kills. Satuala recorded a double-double on the night, adding 11 digs to lead the Redhawks on the defensive end. From the service line, Harvey had seven aces with junior Elsie Breinholt serving up five. Hewlett ran the offense with 31 assists while Harvey also had three blocks at the net.

“Overall, I am so proud of the whole team and the way they have all worked so hard this season,” White said. “Sophomore, JV and varsity all improved so much this year. For varsity, we get to keep playing but know that we wouldn’t be where we are without every girl on all three teams contributing the way they do during practice and on the bench cheering.”

Bountiful ended the Region 5 season with a 14-0 mark and were 20-7 overall heading into the 5A state championship this week.

In the three-set loss against Bountiful, sophomore Avery Poulton had 11 kills and three aces to lead Woods Cross with freshman Zamari Christensen recording 13 assists on offense.

Viewmont

Viewmont finished Region 5 play with a 25-22, 27-25, 25-22 sweep of Clearfield Oct. 24 on Senior Night.

Senior Maddie Lege put away 13 kills and two aces to lead the Vikings with junior CJ Johnson and sophomore Miya Edgington running the offense with 16 and 14 assists, respectively.

“All six seniors – Lege, Gines, Julia Baird, Brook Bedingfield, Sydney Hansen and Taylor Veach – contributed to the match and the 3-0 win. I would like to thank them for their time, energy and dedication to Viewmont volleyball. They are exceptional young women, and I am honored to have been given the chance to work with them this season.”
