With one blowout and won close win, the Farmington boys basketball team improved its record to 3-0 on the season. The Phoenix have a busy week ahead, with three games on the schedule – and a chance to move to 6-0.

Farmington took care of Bonneville 60-43 on Nov. 30 on the road, defeating the Lakers with stifling defense and efficient offense.

The Phoenix started off modestly, building a 26-19 halftime lead. They extended the advantage in the third quarter with a 16-11 run and then finished off the home team with an 18-13 fourth quarter. Farmington made three more free throws and seven more field goals than Bonneville. Both teams connected on seven shots from three-point range. Individually for Farmington, Paul Beattie led all scorers with 27 points. The senior forward also added 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. Senior guard Jayden Haskell contributed 19 points on the night, including three three-pointers. Ethan Atkinson had a nice all-around game, as the senior forward chipped in five points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Things were a lot tougher the next night at Maple Mountain.

Farmington fell behind early against the Golden Eagles, finding itself on the wrong end of a 28-15 deficit. After the first quarter, the Phoenix clamped down on the defensive end significantly, allowing just 35 points the rest of the game in a 66-63 victory. Farmington was still down 43-34 at halftime but went on a 16-9 run in the third quarter to cut the Maple Mountain lead to 52-50. The Phoenix closed out the game by outscoring the Golden Eagles 16-11 over the final six minutes to rally for the win.

Farmington won despite allowing 12 three-pointers and making five fewer shots from the floor than Maple Mountain. Four players scored in double figures for Farmington, led once again by Beattie, who had 16. Carter Nordquist had 15 points, including three shots from behind the three-point arc. Haskell added 11 points, while Braden Larsen had 11.

The Phoenix play at Crimson Cliffs on Thursday in the Allstate Falcon Classic. They’ll also have games in the tournament on Friday and Saturday against to-be-determined opponents. Farmington then returns to action Dec. 12 against Bingham in what will be just its second home game of the season.
