Interfaith devotional set for Saturday

The Baha’is of Davis County will host an interfaith devotional meeting at the Centerville
Public Library this Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
“More of the world seems to be in conflict every day,” said Karen Webb, speaking on
behalf of the Centerville Baha’is Community. “We have been holding small interfaith devotional
meetings weekly on Zoom since COVID struck but wanted to reach out to other faith
communities in the area to see if we could organize something larger and more inclusive.
When communities of faith, or even good intention, focus their energies together, miracles
happen.”
The meeting is not meant to promote any one side in any of the conflicts featured in
today’s headlines but rather to foster thoughts of peaceful resolution, Webb said. The group has invited faith groups from all over Davis County to participate but also invites individuals to join the effort.
“Even if a person doesn’t connect directly to a concept of God,” said Webb, “we invite
individuals to bring quotes from the great thinkers of history. We would welcome thoughts
from figures like Gandhi or even Plato that discuss what humanity can do when people work
together instead of engaging in conflict.”
The Baha’i Faith started in Iran in the middle of the 19th century. It believes one
common Creator has periodically sent Messengers or Prophets to humanity to guide them.
Baha’is espouse a belief in a world at peace with itself and feel the belief many faith traditions
have of a Great Uniter finds fulfillment in Baha’i belief.
The public is invited to attend and to bring short texts to share. Light
refreshments will be served. For further information, please call 801-513-6860.
