Lakeshore Learning Donates to Three Local Schools

Aug 17, 2024 01:00AM ● By Artin Ghazarian

Lakeshore Learning, a leading developer and retailer of educational materials for teachers, children and families, has found a new home in Garland!

This family-owned company recently broke ground on a new 1.2 million square foot distribution center in Box Elder County and is on track to bring more than 500 new jobs to the area.

Just as important—the creation of the center marks the beginning of a relationship with Garland’s wonderful residents.

“The Garland community has welcomed us with warmth, hospitality and excitement—and we couldn’t be more honored to join their charming, family-oriented community,” said Artin Ghazarian, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Lakeshore Learning.

But that’s not all!

Lakeshore Learning also recently unveiled its donation and installation of multiple new learning spaces at three schools in surrounding local communities, impacting more than 3,300 students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Davis Journal sat down with Artin to learn more about these newly donated learning spaces and what this donation means to the local community.

Q: Tell us about this donation to these three schools. What did the donation include?
A: We are thrilled to be able to give back to the local community by providing educators and students with transformed learning spaces ahead of the 2024–2025 school year. This August, we installed a brand-new kiva space at Garland Elementary School, a transformed library space at Box Elder Middle School, plus a new classroom and teachers’ lounge at Sky View High School. It was a whirlwind installation, but we are so proud to be able to give this to the community.

Q: Why is this donation important to Lakeshore?
A: These donations echo Lakeshore’s core mission of supporting teachers and students across the nation. And we couldn’t be more excited to be able to demonstrate this mission here in the local community.

Q: Why are you investing in Garland? What is it about this community that made you want to invest here?
A: Lakeshore was drawn to Utah’s strong sense of community—specifically Garland’s strong sense of family. Utah has such a deep-rooted tradition of supporting families and education, so it felt like the perfect fit for Lakeshore. We couldn’t be happier to build our company’s third distribution center in Garland and to bring hundreds of jobs to the local area.

Q: You mentioned Lakeshore is a family-owned company. Can you tell us more about that?
A: Lakeshore was founded in 1954 by Ethelyn Kaplan, a single mother who defied the conventions of 1950s America. And now, 70 years later, Lakeshore remains true to her founding principles of serving teachers, children and families across the nation.
