Mandonelles back on top of state with record 22nd trophy

The Bountiful High Mandonelles dethroned the three-time state champion Viewmont High Vykelles to win the 5A state championship at Utah Valley University Feb. 1. This title builds on the Mandonelles’ record 22 state championships in drill. This time around, they were 1st in Show, 1st in Dance and 2nd in Military.
“It was an unforgettable day!” said head coach Alba Butler. “The team left it all on the floor! They were not out to prove anything to anyone. They had already done that coming into state undefeated!”
The 2024-25 state champion squad consists of Ady Lillywhiter, Ainsley Ribble, Andie Polster, Arie Frazier, Ava Box, Bella Madsen, Bella Oborn, Berkelee Baker, Brynna Buttars, Gabby Nielsen, Indie Carroll, Jess Nielsen, Katie Peck, Kennedy Hendricks, Kiley Ingles, Lily Ray, Madi Christopherson, Marin Reeves, McKinley Gilchrist, Mia Bright, Mylie Frazier, Presli Rieck, Rainee Allred, Sadie Russon, Sophia St. John and Sophie Hendricks.
“From the first routine to the last, it was clear it wasn’t just about winning; it was about making their mark and giving their absolute best while having the best time!” Butler said. “They arrived with so much positivity and love in their hearts, knowing it was their day to shine. And shine they did!”
Butler has been assisted on the coaching staff by Kali Breckenridge, Sydney Horton, Lexi Wells and Alisha Peters this season.

Viewmont
The three-time defending state champion Vykelles team won the Military category at this year’s 5A state championship while finishing 2nd in Dance and 2nd in Show.
“We had an amazing season!” said head coach Whitney Galbraight. “We finished second in the RPI going into the State Tournament and then finished second overall. We are so proud of all that we were able to accomplish as a team this season! The talent in 5A is amazing, so we are so proud we were able to finish where we did after three straight state championships.”
Paislee Dimaria and Leah Sonntag were honored on the All-State team while Ava Wright was recognized as Academic All-State.
Also on the 2024-25 Vykelles squad are Libby Allred, Sarah Anderson, Elle Bloomfield, Hallee Eskelson, Kenadee Eskelson, River Farrell, Berklie Fox, Lindsie Fry, Charli Fuller, Sydnee Hawkes, Lily Holt, Taylor Huntley, Isabelle Johnson, Savannah Johnson, Kate Lauder, Kyann Nelson, Kennedy Nielson, Sophia Preston, Liv Roberts, Samantha Schlies, Lannaea Schooley, Ella Shupe, Payton Stock, Jules Tullis, Avery Weyerts, Morgan Wilson and Hannah Winder
Galbraith has been assisted on the coaching staff this year by Ally Bennett, Sam Robinson, Halle Emery and Katelyn Lindsey.
