Viewmont
In Viewmont’s 34-point loss to Bountiful Jan. 29, 14 points of offense in each half wasn’t nearly enough.
“This was an off night for us as a program,” said assistant coach Brooke Anderson. “The girls played hard, but just couldn’t get the win.”
Mary Carr led the team with seven points with Mara Mickelson (five), Kailey Selleneit and Callie Peterson (four), Sophie Gold (three), Kelsey Lindsey and Peyton Burningham(two) and Annie Layton (one) also scoring in the loss.
Against Box Elder Jan. 31, the Vikings bounced back with a 59-39 win. Viewmont came out firing, going up 13 points by the end of the first quarter and maintained a seven-point edge at the break. A 34-point second half put the game out of reach in the big win.
“The girls played really well and came back strong from the loss,” Anderson said. “It was a strong effort across the team.”
Mickelson’s 20 points and eight rebounds led the team with Carr adding 17 points and four steals. Peterson had six points and four steals while Lindsey put in five points and assisted on five other shots. Others scoring were Sage Cutler (two points) and Raegyn Dahlke (one).
The Vikings are now 7-3 in Region 5 and 12-7 on the season.
