Through six league games, only one team in Region 1 had been able to get the better of the Davis boys basketball team. Layton defeated Davis on Jan. 14 by the score of 66-43 in the second region game for both teams.

The Darts turned the tables on Tuesday.

Davis took down the Lancers 68-52 at home to move to 6-1 in league play. It was Layton’s first region loss, giving both teams the same region record as they lead Region 1.

The victory was key one for Davis. It was sweet revenge as well.

In the first meeting, Layton dismantled Davis. This time around, the Darts used a dominant second half to win decisively. Layton was up 21-19 at halftime, but the Darts came out of the locker room on fire offensively and playing strong defense. Davis outscored Layton 23-13 in the third quarter and 26-18 in the fourth. The Darts held Layton to 16 of 43 shooting and hit nearly 50% of their own shots from the floor.

Coleman Atwater scored 24 points, pulled down six rebounds and had three steals in the win. JT Turley added 13 points and had five assists. Bode Sparrow added 10 points.

Davis preceded the win over Layton with a 72-40 blowout of Fremont on Jan. 31. Playing on the road, Davis had little trouble defeating Fremont for the second time this season. In this latest outing, the Darts scored 63 of their points through the first three quarters. They outscored the Silverwolves 21-9 in the first quarter and 23-8 in the third. Atwater and Turley each had 17 points, with Turley recording five assists. Sparrow chipped in 12 points and had six steals. Tradon Bessinger scored 11 points and had seven assists.

The Darts are now 17-3 overall and are second in the Class 6A RPI rankings, which will determine playoff seeding for the state tournament. They host Syracuse on Friday and then play at Farmington on Feb. 11. The final regular-season game is on Feb. 14 at Weber.

Farmington

The Phoenix are now 2-5 in Region 1 play and 6-13 overall as they head into a contest at Layton on Friday. In a previous meeting, Layton beat Farmington 79-56 on Jan. 17.

Farmington dropped a 62-57 game at Weber on Jan. 31, giving up a seven-point lead at the end of the third quarter. A rough fourth quarter, in which Weber went on a 24-12 run sealed Farmington’s fate. Cameron Brower led Farmington with 23 points and had seven rebounds. Malakai Tobler scored 16 points, making four three-pointers.

On Tuesday, Farmington struggled offensively, scoring only 38 points in a 50-38 defeat at the hands of Fremont. The Phoenix managed just nine points in the second half and hit 14 shots from the floor in all. The Phoenix didn’t miss a free throw but only shot four in all. Brower was the lone Farmington player to score in double figures. The junior led the team with 10 points, while Tobler score eight points.
